I mean it's a nice key and all but I paid $14 for it.

Of course when keys I paid $18 for like a ClickClack go for $500 you never know with those guys.

I'm not sure I understand the importance of this key. can somebody shed some light on that for me?

Red Cherry Corp doubleshot Esc key. Apparently they're discontinued and rare, hence the crazy-high prices people will pay for them.

I'm sure Ripster knows much more about their history than I do...

This is what I gathered from that forum about why it is worth so much...
Quote:
First off, the average red ESC key isn't doubleshot.
Second, all red ESC doubleshots are thin (unless Slaebo made some red ESC I don't know about)
Third, keycap "look", colour and Cherry Corp font.
Quote:
This was manufactured by Cherry and was made using the same molds as their other DS caps. The difference is in the feel
Quote:
Cherry ones will never be made again since they discontinued doubleshot keycaps in 2009 and sold off all of thier production equipment. There is a good chance all of the original molds no longer exist either. Even then only so many were made first on limited edition wNv keyboard and another small run of just the esc key were made as a custom order. These are one of the rarest and most sought after Cherry doubleshot keycaps.

Just one of those deals for those that are into niche things.

More like key ripsters?

ClickClacks selling for $100 to $500? Molded plastic?

It's like Geekhackers are using pieces of plastic to collect money every time their dog gets sick over there despite ClickClack getting pissed about it all.

Oh, and don't tell ClickClack I've been drilling holes in his babies.

Don't worry your secret is safe on this public forum.

Those holes are for a backlight to shine through I presume? Good idea if it doesn't shine through too directly.

Actually the problem I'm having is getting ENOUGH light to shine through. I need to experiment more. FOR KEYBOARD SCIENCE.

In other words I treat these things like pieces of plastic.

I think Geekhackers have turned into Korean Kopy Rolex and Pokemon collectors.

What's a Hack Orange?

I'm not following the Geekhack nomenclature these days. I barely know who Mudkipz is.
