Try encoding video (Easily uses 8 cores, FX-8150s were matching 2600ks clock for clock in it) or using foobar to encode audio, both can use any amount of cores. There's more that uses 8 cores, you can't have looked far for stuff that adequately uses 8 cores.

If you don't look, you'll never see, and if you couldn't find anything that uses more then four, you didn't look. Even your web browser is extremely threaded these days. Chrome goes so far as to make a new process for each tab.

According to that chart, average core usage appears to be less than 50% on a 8-core FX-8320.
Most cores appear to be utilized less than 50%. Some cores appear to be sometimes idle.
Therefore, the chart shows Planetside 2 using less than 4 cores.

When we say "use more than 4 cores" ...
we mean "use more than 4 cores at the same time" or "running parallel threads on more than 4 cores at the same time (simultaneously)"
or "able to max out 4 cores or more".

quick google search and I found this.

Holy CPU limited batman....

CPU never goes over 70% on any core and is usually around 50% on 6 cores. GPU never goes over 80%, usualy around 70%.

This is max settings 1080p, 60FPS vSync locked. On one GPU. Let me unlock vSync and enable crossfire, we'll see how bad it punishes the system. tongue.gif

Keep in mind, this is just flying around, this is not in a large (200+ people) battle with guns and planes and mortars going off everywhere. Oh, and I think I told the game to use my GPU for physics.

So let me get this straight. Because I seriously overclocked my 8320, and as a result it can't max my CPU, that suddenly makes Planetside 2 unable to "use more then 4 cores"?

No. You lose 10 techie points. You may have them back when you understand what threading is.

I will in about... 12 hours, when I can join up with my Platoon and teach those TR who's boss in a few large battles. No point in doing it again just flying around while no one is on.

No. You lose 10 techie points. You may have them back when you understand what threading is.

Next time, just admit your mistake and move on. We all make mistakes. It's not a big deal.
You implied/suggested that your chart showed more than 4 core usage, when it clearly does not show that.
I pointed out the error and instead of a thank you, you attack me.

If you have a chart which shows more than 4 core usage, then show it.
If you don't, then stop filling up this thread with unsubstantiated claims.

I never said that planetside 2 is unable to use more than 4 cores.
Here is what I wrote
"Therefore, the chart shows Planetside 2 using less than 4 cores."

It shows 6 cores in use. Also.
