Asus P8H77-M Pro Memory configuration advice

post #1 of 4

Hi,

I have an Asus P8H77-M Pro motherboard with 2x2gb 1600 ddr3 memory on it.

I am going to be upgrading this system to Win7 x64 and I have bought an extra 2x4gb ddr3 1600 sticks. All the sticks are G.Skill Ripjaws X exact same specs.

What I cannot figure out from the Asus manual is how I should install my sticks to make sure I get the best performance.

Form the way the manual reads it sounds like I can install all these sticks and still get dual-channel performance and the extra memory will run single channel?

The board has DIMM_A1 and DIMM_A2 slots next to each other and then DIMM_B1 and DIMM_B2 next to each other.

Can anyone tell me if I can install this combination of sticks for a total of 12gb of system memory without compromising my dual-channel performance? And if so exactly how I should install them?

In A put the 4 and 2 GB and do the same sequence in B.

I would have never guessed that!

So, just to make sure I'm 100% clear:

DIMM_A1 = 4GB
DIMM_A2 = 2GB

DIMM_B1= 4GB
DIMM_B2= 2GB

Once I have done this, is there some sort of test or tool I can use to confirm that the memory is running in dual-channel as expected?
