Should I downgrade from my conroe chip?

So here is the issue, I bought an e6700 and had huge expectations for it seeing that the e6300 and e6400's were hitting low-mid 3ghz's, and the e6600's were nearly hitting 4ghz on air, so I thought I was going to get my e6700 and clock it stable 24/7 at maybe a one ghz OC, but I was terribly wrong. I can't hit anything over 3.3ghz with this chip and even that fails prime after 10mins unless I bump the volts so that load temps hit 60C. I bought the e6700 for a little over $100 off NewEggs price for the chip, so if I were to put it on ebay I would not loose any money, but I doubt I would make money after paypal and ebay fee's on a $400-500 sale. My question to you guys is: do you think I should sell my chip and get an e6600/e6400? I know the e6600 is more powerful than the e6400 and it is a good overclocker, but those allendales are hitting amazing OC's for the price, look at TheLegend's e6400, 3.5ghz with load temps of 55c on AIR. I am more about getting more than my money's worth out of a chip by OCing it far, so I am torn between the e6400/e6600. What do you guys think? Should I even sell my chip? From what I see, my chip is performing at about higher than an e6400 but lower than an e6600 assuming they are overclocked, so why keep it with the $150 price premium over the e6600? Let me know your opinions guys, thanks a lot!

I think you should just stay with what you have. Honestly, from what I've read the 2 mb of extra L2 cache makes 5-10 percent difference, which would be about all you get extra in clocks. So its pretty much the same as what you have now. Enjoy what you have it's far better than what I'm packing!

Yea my Zalman doesn't seem to be pulling its weight. So from everything I have read the Tuniq Tower is the cooler to have, or the Scythe Ninja, if I were to get one of those and maybe lap the processor, I would probably be running 7-8C cooler, right? That would be enough to maybe hit 3.5stable, but at that speed and temps, an e6600 could achieve that without being pushed too hard...hmm I don't know guys. Thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming!

Get a Tuniq Tower 120, those Zalman are not as good as many people think.

Also, don't bother downgrading, Conroe @ 3.3ghz sure is fast and it's more than enough power to handle lots of apps for the next 2 years min.

I have an E6600 at 3.0ghz and I have no plans for a downgrade nor upgrade in the CPU department. Even though some E6300 and E6400 scale to 3.0ghz, the E6600 at 3.0ghz is still better and faster.

Sometimes I wish I had an E6700.....wanna trade?

@ The Duke: Thanks man. Yeah I looked and on ebay they are selling for about $440-500, I bought mine for $425 shipped so I shouldn't lose any money should I decide to sell it.

@TimBitz: The only thing is that if i was sure I would be able to hit 3.6 or 3.7ghz by lapping and a tuniq, I would definitely do it, but I don't want to lap it and then find it can only hit 3.45ghz and then have to try to sell a lapped processor since an e6600 is able to hit 3.45ghz.

Is it rare that a chip just isn't a good overclocker or does it really depend heavily on the individual chip? I honestly can't think of any other settings to try so my conclusion was that it was the CPU.
