Yeah but then Id have to drop an additional price of the processor again, and, I don't know that Im up for monitoring a phase change system all the time because Im sure they require a lot of TLC.

I'm w/ Nasgul. Tuniq may work wonders for you. The other tower coolers are excellent too, I have a Noctua 120...amazing.

The footprint of the 9500 (I put it on a x2 3800 when I got the Noctua) is smaller than the towers, empircally speaking: Size makes a difference.

Is it rare that a chip just isn't a good overclocker or does it really depend heavily on the individual chip? I honestly can't think of any other settings to try so my conclusion was that it was the CPU.
It isnt at all rare that your cpu isnt clocking as high as others maybe. Its just the luck of the draw sometimes but im curious as to what settings your using because if your trying to reach 3.7ghz on stock volts your chances of making that happen are slim to nil.

I think its also a misconception that all 6600s and 6700s easily hit 3.4 3.5ghz. There are many people that cant hit 3.5ghz on air with those cpus without 1.55 to 1.6 volts. I've got a week 25A 6600 that would only hit 3.1 ghz with 1.45volts and would boot at up to 3.5ghz with 1.6v but there was no stability over 3.1ghz.

The same cpu is orthos stable at 3.8ghz under phase while i know other people can hit 4ghz orthos stable with their 6600s. Its all luck of the draw and watching out for which weeks are clocking good. So far the best thing going right now are the "B" chips especially the week 28b ones. I wouldnt get rid of the cpu just yet and i definately wouldnt downgrade unless i knew i had for sure clocker already tested by someone else i trust.

Post your settings and lets see if we can help you get to at least 3.5ghz

MrDeeds, I have tried EVERYTHING I feel like. I have played with every setting in the mobo (that applies to stable CPU OC) and I can't get this thing stable over 3.2ghz and when I do boot it up at a decent OC, 3.6ghz, the temps are ridiculously high, as in 50idle, and it fails prime as soon as I click the test button, seriously less than one second. Here is a link to all the settings I have tried: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...y-stumped.html
Since that thread started I have tried vcore up to 1.58x and the temps are at 56idle, so I didn't even care I just booted down again and put it at...STOCK SETTINGS! Nothing gets it stable over 3.3ghz, not even 1.58xvolts.
Thats some good info about checking the week no., I didn't know that.

Like someone suggested to you in the other thread it really will help your oc if you invested in a better psu. Most people dont know how much a good psu will help in getting you stable. I understand what your saying about your temps but the question i ask is why dont you get a better cooler, its pretty much established that the 9500 is yesterdays news.

Another thing i dont think your compensating for is the vdroop on the p5b deluxe. If you dont know what vdroop is, its when you set 1.45v in the bios and its 1.42v when your in windows then when you start to load test it droops even further to 1.38. I've had a p5b deluxe and at 1.65 set in bios it was really about 1.58 under load.

I also hope you dont have c1e or speedstep enabled in the bios.

Other than that here are the realities of a 3.8ghz c2d retail cpu expect to run it at over 1.5volts most likely closer to 1.58 or higher. Now at those volts your going to have higher temps so you have to decide if its worth it to you to invest in the cooling to get you there. There are many stable at those clocks with water cooling so thats something consider if your looking for better cooling.
