I agree that a dead socket is not a concern, and better value if its cheaper in a situation like this. If the guy isn't a computer enthusiast himself, odds are he is not going to upgrade later anyway, so the option is irrelevant. If he is, or does later become interested in computers, at that point a completely new build would be in order rather than upgrading an APU budget rig if he wants something stronger. For general use, this computer will last long enough to where when the time comes to replace it, an upgrade within socket won't be what you need, and at ~$300 it would have served its purpose wonderfully. And at that point you can either do another budget build with newer tech or spend more, also on newer tech.
