AMD (Llano) HP Laptop - Ram Upgrade Question (A8-3530mx)

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for ways to increase my current laptop. It's a dv6z-6100 CTO. Equipped with A8-3530mx plus discrete card 6600m.

I know that Llano ram speed helps a lot, so I was thinking about an upgrade. Using the crucial scanner this is the ram I have:

Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Currently Installed Memory: 6GB
Total Memory Slots: 2
Available Memory Slots: 0

I want to increase the ram to 8 GB and the highest possible speed. I'd like to hit 1600 if possible. I'm not really sure how I can tell if I can do this, or even if there is enough ram slots.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

In order to get what you seek, you need these:

the stuff

But as for it running at the 1600 MHz speed, I am not certain. The manual for your laptop didn't indicate anything more than 1333 MHz running speed.

Hmmm. I saw that ram earlier, it just worried me that it says for intel systems. Good idea to check the manual! I was looking at the bios and there isn't even options to set the RAM speed. It worries me a bit. Maybe I'll just grab a pair of 1333s. I feel like there should be some info what the max ram speed is for this CPU, but haven't been able to find that info.

In Laptop RAM will run at a set speed. 1333 is probably what it will run at.

Just found this:

The A8-3530MX also features an integrated dual-channel memory controller with support for DDR3-1600 or DDR3L-1333 memory and a PCIe 2.0 controller.

How reliable do you think this is?

Rule of thumb, just because it says made for intel
Does not specifically mean that it's only for intel it's a marketing gimmick
