EVGA GTX 570 hd 1.2 GB overclock questions

Thread Starter
ok, so im trying to overclock my gtx 570, as the title would imply.

the base stats of the 570 are as such:
core: 732 MHz
memory: 1900
shader :1461 MHz

i tried a (what i thought was) modest overclock, up to 780 MHz for the core, and it constanly freezes on games.
i havent run tests to see what the issue was, i probably should do that though. what software should i use?
what would i be doing wrong, like what are some common mistakes in GPU overclocking?

im pretty sure i left out some useful info so if i did, just ask for it.

Directx 10 games, and directX9 (especially rewritten to work with 10) don't play well with OC and often crash regardless of it being run on stock. Also did you try raising the voltage yet?

thanks for the quick reply.

the games im playing are minecraft and borderlands 1, both on max settings. i have Vsync on at 75 fps so the gpu dosnt over work it's self.

i have seen some instances of the 570 getting overclocked fairly high, so i didnt see why i coudnt do so as well. it is using the stock cooler, so that might be it. im planning on getting a fairly large gpu cooler soon, havent deicided on the model, but i have around a $100 buget set for myself.

also just curious, could it be my other hardware cause ing an issue? i dont think it would because its all pretty fast and very stable.

i have tried changing the voltage. currently i found a stable overclock (i think)
core speed:780
memory speed: 1900
shader: 1560
voltage: 1.025
temp: 56 celcius

so far no isses running minecraft, but i have a feeling it will crash again soon. thanks for the tips biggrin.gif

EDIT: so far so good on borderlands. i think it may have been the voltage! thanks alex!

Can't you download a firmware upgrade that unlocks the voltage? Or was that the fan speed? Haha I don't remember maybe both.
