1st time builder-parts compatibility

HI, very new to overclock and very new to building rigs so bare with me. So over the past month I have been trying to piece together a rig that adequately suits my needs for autocad and a mind melting gaming experiance and believe me when I say this both are IMPORTANT! Anyways here's the list, so far, be brutal:

Case: nzxt phantom series black
Motherboard: asus rampage iv
Graphics card: evga gtx 680 ftw standard 4gb 256 bit gddr5
Processor: intel core i7 3930k
Ram: g skill ripjaw z series 16gb (F3-14900CL9Q-16GBZL)
Memory: ssd crucial m4 512 gb 2.5" sata III (CT512M4SSD1)

Also I'm finding it very difficult, probably over thinking it, finding a very high quality psu to go with this soon to be demigod... So yeah just really need to make sure I'm on the right path. Really interested what you guys think so get back at me.

Hmm, 16gb of RAM suits your needs for Auto-CAD as well as the hyperthreading that will come with the 3930k on the LGA 2011 platform. You definitely have a beast there. But seeing as you will be using Auto-CAD I would recommend an AMD 7970 over a GTX 680. But if you're leaning towards CUDA for a specific reason dealing with CAD then that's understandable. For this system I'd say a quailty 500-600w PSU will suit you just fine if not it'll be a bit overkill! Here's what I'm recommending:

AMD 7970: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150586&name=Desktop-Graphics-Cards

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151098

P.S. - Yes, you're on the right path. Keep hitting back as you add more parts. You HDD's, Monitors, Coolers, Etc? thumb.gif

If your autocad takes advantage of cuda, then I would look at getting two GTX 670 4gb in SLI.

You can back off your motherboard choice to something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157290&name=Intel-Motherboards

And probably back off your SSD to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193&name=Internal-SSD this drive (which will probably be far better for the applications you are running anyways.)

The you can possibly afford the two GPUs.

for your PSU inquiry, antec, corsair, seasonic, enermax are all good reputable brands that provides good warranty for their products. the question for you is. would you want to go modular? (cables that you wont use can be taken out, but it is more expensive)

i personally have a corsair hx650, i am very satisfied with it.
