Core i7 975EE Default Clock Question

Thread Starter
This is a bit embarrassing, but I have a machine with a Core i7 975EE that I've never properly clocked - it was just left at the original out of the box 2.65GHz for the last 2 years or so.

I'm interested now in clocking it to the 3.5+ range depending on how high it'll go (listed at 3.33GHz); I'm wondering though if it's ok for me to overclock the first jump (from 2.65 to 3.33) without the usual stepping up incrementally process?

My logic is that it's currently heavily underclocked, and that I'm just putting it at factory rated speed. Would it still be wise to incrementally clock it all the way up to 3.33 first though to ensure stability, etc.?

Thanks

I clocked from stock to 4.8 by just plugging in numbers that worked for other people. Dead serious. Overclocking isnt an exact science, and there are general guidelines to what will and wont work. Giving your CPU 2V probably is bad, but then not giving it enough will cause boot issues. Either way, OC the way you want to. I admit cheated but it is what it is tongue.gif
