How can I add an individual ant behaviour such that the ant can only carry a certain weight? I've tried the bin-packing algorithm to no avail. My problem is when the.pheromen is updated where I can check against a weight?

Basically it's about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant_colony_optimization_algorithms. It's about combinations and permutations. When you have a random generator selecting numbers from 1 - 16 and you have 4 arrays with A = array (1), B = array (2,3,4), C = array ( 6,7,8,9,10), D = array (11,12,13,14,15,16) then the propabilities of A,B,C,D is 1,3,5,7. The chance for (not having an) A is 1/16, B 3/16, C is 5/16, D 7/16.

Suppose you have formula D(i,j) with a probability P this is called edge detection. I need another parameter that can control the weight carry by an ant because my can carry up to a certain weight and I need to maximize the weight and the distance the ant travels.

Maybe it's P(x) because I also have the lower bound. The probabilities should change with the weight and the maximum is X. The lowest weight should be more desirable then the heavier weigths.

Don't forget that you also have speed of carry affected by weight. An ant can go so fast when carrying up to so much then will slow down if more is added. Until the speed is 0 and that is the maximum the ant can carry.

Maybe I can use the wilson intervall? The probability for a weight needs to be maximize. I don't need a solution either because it's a meta heuristic and it should only produce good solutions.

Yes, when you mean an euklidian space it's true. But I don't think it has something to do with triangle inequality. It's just about a weight and how much the ant can carry it in how much time.

That's not very accurate. The chance to get A is 1:15, B is 1:13, C is 1:11 and D is 1:9. Look here http://www.mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/56706.html. Or is it the chance of not getting A is 1:15?

Maybe I asked the question wrong, but I don't understand. If one event happens 1 in 30 times, and another happens 1 in 19 times, how can the chance of either occuring be over 1 in 600?

Shouldn't it be at least less than 1 in 19?
You weren't clear on the question.

When you say 30:1 in favor of event 1, then the probability that event 1 occurs is 30/31.

When you say 30:1 against event 1 occurring, then the probability that event 1 occurs is 1/31.

1/31 + 1/20 - 1/31*1/20 = 5/62

which is equivalent to odds "against" of 57 : 5
