Noctua NH-L9

The NH-L9i and NH-L9a are premium quality quiet CPU coolers for Intel LGA115x (NH-L9i) and AMD FMx (NH-L9a) based HTPCs and Small Form Factor systems. Due to the slim 23mm heatsink and the NF-A9x14 low profile fan that measures only 14mm in thickness, the NH-L9 coolers stand a mere 37mm tall, which makes them ideal for use in compact HTPCs or Small Form Factor cases that offer minimum clearance for CPU coolers.

The heatsinks have a 95x95mm (NH-L9i) and 92x114mm (NH-L9a) footprint that complies exactly to the Intel LGA115x and AMD FMx socket keep-out zones. This means that the coolers are fully compatible with tall memory modules and PCIe cards on mini-ITX mainboards.
...
The NH-L9 coolers bundle custom-designed SecuFirm2 mounting systems for AMD FM1/FM2/AM3+ (NH-L9a) and Intel LGA1150/1155/1156 (NH-L9i) that offer extended compatibility with mini-ITX boards and make installation easier than ever, all while maintaining the trusted SecuFirm2 quality.

Looks very nice. biggrin.gif Like the AXP-100. I want to see these pitted against each other.
Oh. Most important part:

The NH-L9i and NH-L9a will be available immediately at a recommended retail price of EUR 39.90 / USD 47.90.

I love the look of this cooler, but I totally dislike the lack of backplate & mounting bracket. I've owned a Samuel 17 and while it wasn't impossible, mounting it was not very much fun. The Intel Noctua is 95mm×95mm×23mm whereas the upcoming Thermalright AXP-100 is 120mm×105mm×44mm and can be used with a 100mm, 120mm, or 140mm fan , so I doubt the NH-L9i will perform as well as the AXP-100. That being said, the Noctua will be the go to ultra low profile cooler for cases that don't have enough room and for people who want to use memory with tall heatsinks tongue.gif

Doesn't seem that hard to mount:

What? Using a super low profile cooler and then getting really tall ram? wink.gif

I think this will be perfect for the CPU I have in mind (17W).

I meant compared to a cooler with a backplate and mounting bracket, but sure.

The photo of the AXP-100 with a single Hyper-X dimm popped into my mind when I mentioned the tall memory lol. Can't wait to see how you like the Noctua smile.gif

Hmmm interesting, 23mm high without fan and no backplate would comply to my <1U HTPC, with PWM blower placed sideways. Or maybe work passive mode with a i3-2120T biggrin.gif
PS: I managed to adapt two Samuel-17s to LGA1366 Xeon mount, crawling under the fins to tighten screws, this L9i compared... piece of cake biggrin.gif
