Qt is awesome. It's my go-to framework for everything. But it is not a good solution for beginners in C++. Go get Code::Blocks with MinGW and look at some tutorials on The New Boston, for starters. Or if you want to get comfortable with a Windows IDE, just get Visual C++. I wouldn't recommend going VC++ yet, as I find quirks in the compiler that can get hairy for beginners. Learn console. Learn console more. Learn console even more. Learn it again. Trust me, you can work with consoles for your first programs. Then you can move into GUI programming. Basically, stick with C++. C++ is a lot more open and lower-level than Java. Java I just find frustrating. Java lacks a really good IDE (yes, I know Eclipse this...Eclipse that... Eclipse is terrible okay?), compiled Java programs require a bytecode interpreter with introduces overhead, and GUI programming with it is a nightmare. In it's defense, if you can handle the overhead, it's a great language for cross-platform compatibility. As for C#, if it wasn't so MS dependent, it would be better. But for Windows, only programming, you should be fine. So my recommendations in order: C++, C#, Java.

Say that again about having a proper IDE for Java...They are just soooo mediocre compared to Visual Studio for example

c#, as far as MS dependent, last time I checked there was pretty good support on linux as well. I've done significant programming in both c++ and c# and find c# very easy to work with.
