Looking to upgrade from headphones to speakers

READ EDIT
I'm looking to buy some speakers, and maybe a sound card (I don't know much about audio).

A couple of weeks ago i brought my third monitor, and i'd like some really nice speakers to accopany them, as always having to wear a headset it does get a bit annoying.
I have been looking around on the internet and have seen these

Budget: I'm willing to spend around £200 but if it will really be worth saving up and spending an extra £50 or £100 I don't mind

Music: I listen to Dubstep, and metal, so some nice bass would be awesome.

Perks: Will last a long time, (I dont plan on upgrading these in say next 2-3years), I play alot of FPS so if they were able to give more of a realistic effect (Surround sound) Great bass.

Use: There really only going to be placed on my desk behind my monitors. And i can have the big speaker (Sub? I dont know what it's called) under the desk by my feet.

Buying from: I live in England, so please use £ when referring to prices.

I don't know weather i should buy a sound card or weather the one on my motherboard will be good enough to support what I'm planning to do.

Sorry if the information is very vague, if needed i can re-explain.
Thanks in advance smile.gif

EDIT: Now looking for some advice on what to buy. I was going to go for the HTR-6130 but i couldnt find it in the UK, so i have swapped it out for a RXV373 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/RXV373-BLACK-Channel-Receiver-Outputs-Black/dp/B007W1Z9RE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1351069786&sr=8-4) Just need to know if you guys would recommend this or should i look for something else? I'm still looking for some speakers, will edit this thread when i have found some.

Would i be able to run just those 'Mission 707' speakers without the Sub or the 'Marantz SR 5200'?

The Sub is too big for me. The one i have at the moment (from my old speakers which are broken now (only left speaker works, and the connection is dodgy)) is about half (maybe less) the size of that one.

1. Being passives, you need an amp/receiver to drive those Missions but yes you can choose to omit a sub by which

2.Wanting nice bass and expecting small pitiful/badly built subs to deliver, you are going to get terribly dissapointed wink.gif It doesn't *have* to be under your desk

I would really recommend you save up that extra 100£. IMO you really do need to go +250£ to get anything decent. Spend around ~200£ to get an entry level receiver. Some of the good ones are Onkyo, harmankardon, Sony, Pioner or Yamaha. Personally I think yamaha has good entry level stuff. Something like this --> http://www.amazon.co.uk/RXV373-BLACK-Channel-Receiver-Outputs-Black/dp/B007W1Z9RE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1351069786&sr=8-4 (Warning this one does not have analog inputs for all channels in the back)

Then spend what you have left on speakers. I would recommend getting a pair of full range Towers (floor sanding). Some things you want is a minimum of 2-way, and some +5" main drivers. My own Yamaha NS-50B cost 130€ (105£). They are hardly the best around but do sound pretty good even when compared to some 300€ Jamos.

Now you might be thinking that's only Stereo with no subwoofer. Trust me a good pair of full range speakers are much better then a bunch of cheap surround crap. Really a lot of the sub 100£ subs are totally useless and don't even reach the low HZ that subs are supposed to reproduce and you can add the surround speakers later if you really fell you need them. Thous Yamaha NS-50B I mentioned earlier actually have some matching surround speakers NS-P60 (Center +back speakers = 105£). I'm not saying you should necessarily get the same speakers I have I'm just giving you a reference of what some half decent entry-level stuff costs.

PS: Almost forgot. If you want surround from PC --> AV receiver is a good to have analog inputs for all channels in the back (like my HTR-6130 has) -->

Those aren't on all AV receivers so always check the connectivity before you buy.

Thanks Bit_Reaper for the great explanation.

I wont be able to fit that AV receiver you posted into were i was hoping, but i think i would be able to make room for it if it was okay being on it's side stood up next to my PC?
Also i do not have any room for some full tower speakers. Speakers i would be able to fit are something like the mission 707s that Trog posted. I have also founds some old speakers on the fridge:

They are also running on the analog connection? I'm not sure.

Would there be anyway to hook these up to my PC without an AV receiver? I'm also looking into the one that you had posted, but they wont work with it will they because they don't have the analog inputs.
If these speakers are worth using and keeping for a while do you know of any good AV receivers that will be able to support these?

That looks like what I know as mini stereos. I have had similar ones but they aren't very good in my experience so I would recommend not using them. As for having a AV receiver standing on its side? I don't see why this could not be done as long as the ventilation holes are not covered up. If you don't have room for floor standing speakers I guess you have to go for some shelf speakers instead. Thy tend to have slightly weaker bottom end then floor standing and cost more to get the same sound quality over all. When it comes to speakers size really does matter. Just keep in mind you want full range speakers not satellites.

I've been looking around now that it's coming time for me to order them, and i am struggling to find places to buy these.
I think i am going to go with the receiver (I can only find it on amazon.com, not .co.uk http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-HTR-6130BL-5-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B0013Z9F66) you have, but I'm struggling to find any speakers. I think it's mainly because i don't know were to look (i have been using amazon.co.uk) do you recommend nay places to go to look?

why don't you just make life easy on yourself and buy some KRK Rokit. don't try and build a HiFi system it will turn out janky. you don't need a 5.1 receiver and you don't want Yamaha monitors they are very neutral.
