Go for 32gb ram or 64 gb?

Hi I ordered 32 gb of g.skills ram rated 1866 cl 10 4x 8gb ,got this at a good price and was wondering if i shouldnt mybe get a second 32 gb kit while i can afford it?I use my pc for mostly gaming , video editing and programming.thanks in advance
post #2 of 23
I got 6GB and that is more than enough for gaming and video editing for clips up to 15 minutes at one time... Even 32GB an excessive amount of RAM and can see VMWARE and massive amounts of video (CS6 64bit native applications) being able to somewhat take advantage...

I don't think you will need more than the 32Gb, i have 8Gb in my system and have never exceeded 5Gb. I do not believe that video editing will exceed 32Gb, you should be all set. 64Gb is overkill in my opinion

You will only need up to 16GB of RAM unless you are using virtual machines or RAM Disks... For editing you want the fastest RAM availible or some good overclocking RAM like the Samsung Wonder RAM.

If you can afford it and it won't make you starve or anything why not? Grab another kit and call it a day. Use it to make a nice RAM disk, Fire up a VM and start folding!

I was looking at the insanely fast speeds of ram disc in comparison to my ssd,was quite impressed, which is why i would go for the 64 gb, but i read a thread on people unsure if it will be stable at overclocking,my current 8 gb ram was limiting me abit , but i am happy with my current clockspeed of 4.2 ghz, would like to keep it there with the new ram,if possible

Im running 16gb and i render lots in 3ds max which eats ram for fun, and i still feel 16 is overkill.

But this is OCN where overkill is the norm... and generally encouraged smile.gif

What would you do with a 2nd 4 DIMM kit? Does your motherboard have 8 DIMM slots?
