I'd say BC2's FB1.5 engine's destruction is slightly worse than BF3's...but the graphics is no match.
The only gripe I have with BF3's physics is the lack of the ability to blow bridges up.

Ok I'm serious, where do you see physics in BF3? A single tree that falls over and clips through all kinds of objects in one map? That's a pretty lame excuse for physics support and the falling debris may as well be a scripted animation, the likes of which have been in countless games for years.

As for graphics - Low res, heavily filtered images with excessive bloom? Stylized yes. good is subjective. Personally I find a 5 year old game called Crysis to have better graphics, especially considering it's age. Come to think of it, it also had much better physics. Yes, crysis has multiplayer, you just never played it.

The engine may support great physics, but it isn't even slightly implemented. If you want to talk about potential, Unreal and Cryengine both have vastly superior capabilities. I'm sure there are countless other comparable engines I've never even heard of.

^ forgive me as I've only played crysis 1 demo...then crysis 2 on PS3 so that doesn't count.
but I don't recall seeing any physics that can match the destruction scale and fluidity of the radio tower in Caspian Border (sure it's scripted..but I've yet to see other games that do not offer destruction that isn't scripted) or the bullet drop from a sniper rifle 500 yards away...or the ANT player motions (although I dont know if that's only limited to singleplayer)

I think there's better lighting in cryengine but I personally think FB does everything else better in the graphics dept.

edit: my point is that there may be quirks (mainly the gameplay mechanics) that don't make BF3 true to its series' roots...but bugs can't really be added to the argument because every past BF games has all be buggy that takes a long ass time to get patched if it does get fixed..but ultimately this game is still a technical marvel ahead of its time considering it's large, open scale action...much like Crysis 1 was in 2007.

You're welcome to have your opinions on graphics. As I said that's a subjective area.

Not sure what you mean by "ANT player motions". Perhaps you can clarify.

The bullet drop? That's been in games for years, including games with significantly larger scale.

If we're going to agree that all the significant "physics" effects in BF3 are scripted, then we should be comparing it to other scripted events. There are a LOT of other games with really spectacular scripted events.

That's kind of my point. Anything significant in BF3 is scripted. There isn't much real physics going on. It might look pretty, but there are other games that make much better and more extensive use of real physics.

2.ANT motions----FIFA and Madden are the ones that developed those,DICE just swiped them to use.
3Physics-How many times do you see tanks thinking they are from the Fast and furious films?They seem to do that A LOT in bf3.tongue.gif

ANT is the player physics used by EA Sports in their FIFA/NHL titles

Just watching that video I forgot the audio in this game is excellent.

I'm unaware of bullet drop in other games except BF2...i wouldn't be surprised if it was in military sims like AA or ArmA

Aside from racing/flight sims I still can't think of games with better physics scripted or not...

1. haven't played it...but judging from vids/ss it's graphics pale in comparsion to bf3. Like the original question..both physics and visuals.
2. yeap I'm aware of that.
3. actually....I think armour are TOO SLOW to accelerate in this game. The loss of rear view mode in this game means Support can run up to your tank while you cap and blow you up....and you can't take off fast enough to avoid it. Maybe they don't 'want tanks/LAV/destroyers to be OP but its annoying haha

edit: my point is that there may be quirks (mainly the gameplay mechanics) that don't make BF3 true to its series' roots...but bugs can't really be added to the argument because every past BF games has all be buggy that takes a long ass time to get patched if it does get fixed..but ultimately this game is still a technical marvel ahead of its time considering it's large, open scale action...much like Crysis 1 was in 2007.

Like you said it's scripted. Most of the destruction in BF3 is scripted. It's done by having preset pieces that fall apart and simply fall or replacing pieces (like walls) with gibs that then fall. Ever notice how every bit of debris is apparently weightless and floats like a cloud? Yeah. It's how they did it in BC2 and it's how they're doing it in BF3. It's visually impressive but it isn't an amazing display of physics in a game. These days it seems that more and more triple-A engines are becoming homogeneous so there's little point in arguing. FB and Cryengine both do lighting very well, which is probably one of the most important aspects of graphical fidelity alongside texturing methods.

They should let us mod the game, I hate the direction that they computer industry it is taking, IE. Windows 8, no V control on Nvida 600 GPU'S, no moding of games, everything has DLC, Pay to win games, Apple. the list goes on and on.
