Overclock i7 3930k to 4.4ghz with corsair H100

hello, Ive been reading all the post here and im SOOO confused....first of all english is not my main language so its hard to understand some technical words for me, but well, I try...

anyway, what I want to do is to OC the bost clock, can I do that? I would like that the CPU goes to 4.4ghz only when it needs...if not, I would like to OC only to 4.2ghz....here you have my sepcs:

Gtx 690
I7 3930k
Corsair H100
Corsair dominator platinum 16gb 1866 mhz
SSD OCZ 256gb
HD 3TB Western digital
ASUS rampage formula IV
Thermatake mk1
Coolermaster silente pro 1000w

Ive overlcocked a core2quad 2.4ghz to 2.8, but It was 5 years ago and all I did was change a value from the BIOS.

Please also tell me which software should I download to test, check, etc, I already downloaded CPU-Z

I can post some BIOS screenshot if you need.

A 4.4 GHz on that CPU should be real easy, just up the multiplier to 44 and test with Prime95, you may not need to increase the vcore.

Test with Prime95 for stability and monitor temps with Real Temp. If unstable bump vcore offset to first available volt in list. Keep testing and bumping the vcore to next level, until 12-24 hours stable in Prime95.

Good Luck!

This is a very nice guide for OCing SB-E, there is a LOT of info in there. Worth the reading.

I tried it 3 times, but I dont understand xd my english is not my main language and so many confusing sentences for me frown.gif
I even tried looking for the same things to change in my motherboard BIOS, as he show in the pictures, but I couldnt find it. I really need someone with a rampage IV to tell me "look this screenshot, just change this and this as I did"

I can get to 4.6GHz easily while keeping the temp low enough even on air, so you should be pretty safe if you're not putting the voltage too high or something.

It looks like you should probably have the AI Suit software too that came with your ASUS MB for overclocking within Windows. It makes it pretty easy, and will load default settings if for whatever reason your PC crashes. At 4.6GHz you might need to raise the voltage to 1.3 to 1.35 or so. Less even of course if you're going for 4.4.

4.2 to 4.4, if done right, should be safe for 24/7.

Unless you changed some additional settings, it should only clock up that high when it needs to and idle a lot lower.
