Did I just damage my Phenom ii x4 955 BE?

I was going to replace TIM. I unscrewed the heat sink and pulled it off, the CPU came with it without the socket unlocking.

No physical damage to pins and it boots fine, I'm posting from it now. But my BIOS said "New CPU in system!"

Could this have any longer term effects like stability? I don't know of any stress tests for Ubuntu 12.10 since it's still in Beta

Technically no, I have the same proccessor and the me thing happened to me. It has since been about a month, with no noticable difference in power, temp, or performance. I figured what ever was holding the two togethure had been damaged by the temp of the proccesor. You should be fine, if you have any problems make sure to contact your provider for any possiable warranty. Other wise just fork over the 195 dollars for the new piledrivers and upgrade. The proccessor is getting outdated anyways.

OK thanks. Come to think of it I'll probably switch to PD in a few months anyway. Maybe come January.

Done the same and bent 7-10 pins in the process. Straightened them up and still chugging along to this day. If it works and stays powered on for a few days and under various high load situations with decent temps, I would say you're home clear.
