OtherOS++ was mentioned above me here, but I'm really not sure what all really works and how easy it is to use. Would these allow you to just pop in an old PS1/2 game and enjoy?

I thought all PS3s supported PS1 games? Maybe that changed. I do know that only the original 2 versions supported PS2 through hardware and then a few revisions afterward through software emulation.

Yes they do all support PS1 games, unless they removed that with the recent revision.

Yeah, PS1 games was always supported through emulation. The PS3's CPU and GPU isn't strong enough to emulate PS2 hardware, even though some devs tried I think. The original PS3s had the full PS2 hardware, and then some of the later models had one out of the 2 PS2 chips, so PS2 compatibility was through partial emulation, and certain PS2 games will not work. Then the later models removed the PS2 hardware entirely.

There were some dongals released that allowed non backwards compatible Ps3's to play Ps2 games. thumb.gif

The dongles only allowed backup PS2 ISOs to be played on backwards compatible PS3s, and didn't really work on non-backwards compatible PS3s. The Cell processor simply doesn't have enough processing power to emulate the PS2.

No wonder consoles aren't doing so good. Someone told me he read an article on console generations and she said they are not doing so good right now this year due to the fact Microsoft wants to focus more on PC.

I am pretty sure Cobra was able to do it and MM already allowed for the backup of PS2 games.

Allowing backup and ability to play are two very different things. I've looked it up, the PS3's hardware isn't powerful enough for emulation for current methods. Maybe someone will one day release an emulator that will work, but for the moment, there are no PS2 emulators that work on a PS3.

Sorry console kiddies, theres nothing wrong with owning a console for games you just can't settle into quite the same on PC, but real gamers won't go online multiplayer on consoles unless they just want to laugh at how hopeless console gamers are.

Interesting being belittled and called a console kiddie because I enjoy playing my PS3 more than my PC. Let this little "kiddie" inform you about reality. I have been playing console games since I got my Atari 2600 back in the 80s. I have been playing PC games since I have built my first windows 3.1 PC and was really hooked on Sim City. I have since built a PC almost every 2 years and owned almost every console released since the Atari 2600. I have seen this same lame old "PC vs Console" many times on the internet since the early 90s.

Out of all of this I've learned: Not to be a prick and judge others on what they play. People have different tastes.

Almost all of my friends play on PS3 and play together. Sure my PC can handle CoD MW3, but are my friends there?(My real life friends btw). Nope they aren't. What do I choose then? Simple, I choose to enjoy myself and have fun with my friends on the PS3. I'd rather play 10 FUN matches in a night with my friends(on my $300 PS3) then play 100 matches with strangers who will just sit there and talk crap(on my $1500 PC). Someday when you are older, and you have a wife, a full time job, and very little time in the day to really do much, you'll understand this.
