I've come across this forum many times while asking google about various things, and finally decided to cut out the middleman and register. I'm a pc gamer that got into overclocking for increased performance and have grown to like benchmarking more than just a little.

My current rig is in dire need of an upgrade, but I'm having trouble deciding what parts I should get. Also, I don't know anything about this "new" way of overclocking, since my latest cpu is an intel e6850 laughingsmiley.gif

We're going to need a budget and an objective before suggesting parts. Do you plan on spending $500, or $2500? Do you want water cooling, multiple GPU's or just a low-cost gaming rig?

Once we get those things straight, we'd love to help.

Once we get those things straight, we'd love to help.

Well, this wasn't meant to be a post asking for suggestions (that was going to come later) it's more of just why I'm here and a (very small) bit about my experience. But, since you've asked, the plan is a pretty nice rig with good 1080p gaming performance and good quality components to support reasonably high overclocks. I don't want some ridiculous rig just to have it, since my main focus is gaming performance and I don't like to pay for things I won't use.

I want something that will still be working in a few years when I decide to upgrade again so I have time to plan and save money to get what I want instead of something cheap that will go out randomly after the warranties have been voided and need to scramble to get something together as I've seen many times before when people try to save a bit of money up front.

That being said, the budget is fairly flexible if I really think something is worth the extra cost, but ~$1000 for the main components is a reasonable number for me i guess. I intend to keep my old case, a coolermaster cm 690, and my cpu cooler, a Thermalright Macho HR-02, as well as my storage and optical drives, so it shouldn't be a problem, it's just taking the time to find the perfect parts.

I do intend to pick up a second gpu shortly after the initial build, so that needs to be an option as well.

This build is still in the early planning stages since I still need to get a bit more money together, but my last car payment is next week, so the budget will be getting a lot more wiggle room thumb.gif

Thanks Ion, I was wondering how to do that, but decided to play Doom instead of figuring it out ....

I'll be making a thread about my build ideas with specific questions and such tomorrow probably.

I think I'm actually enjoying the planning part almost as much as I will the final product lol
