AX 650 Discontinued?

Thread Starter
I recently bought some corsair's red sleeved cables directly from them on sale a few weeks ago. I am planing on building a system with either an AX 650 near the end of this year, but haven't bought any of the components yet aside from these sleeved cables. I figured it would be safe to get them since the AX series has been selling strong for years now.

However, I looked on newegg and found that the AX line below 850w (which would be total overkill for a GTX670 and an i5 3570k...or thereabouts). I was going to get only the AX650 since it would do just fine with a system like that. Now it is gone? What the heck? Anyone know if corsair actually has really discontinued the AX650, or are they not shipping them to newegg anymore??

They are on their site and on microcenter, but are those going away soon too? I'd rather not blow $170 on a PSU right now since I won't be building the system for months....and I'd rather get it on sale if possible (black friday).

You could get an AX750 and then add another GTX 670 since you are feeling too bad about the overkill tongue.gif

Agree. Maybe wait on the next gen Nvidia kepler cards. I'd pay good money for a current 680, but the 780 sounds like it will own anything and everything currently. Worth the AX750 at that point.

Interesting. Someone should go on the corsair forums and ask.

1. The HX650 has a new revision that is 80 plus gold. Maybe the didn't see a need for the ax650 because its so similar to the hx650.

2. The other possibility is they are planning a revision ax650i. This doesn't make much sense because the ax750 and ax850 are still around.

I generally hate the place, but I got mine from best buy because I had a gift certificate. Looks like they still have it http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+-+Professional+Series+Gold+650W+ATX+Power+Supply/2904514.p?id=1218361847978&skuId=2904514&st=corsair power supply&cp=1&lp=9

You could always get the seasonic X-650. It's the exact same PSU. Seasonic manufactures the internals.

Yeah, but he mentioned he got the sleeved cables. Too much of a risk that Seasonic, although the same internals, has the same pinout. Poof!

I'm almost positive I've seen it mentioned several times that the corsair sleeved cables will work with the seasonic unit. Definitely something you'd want to look into personally before you buy though for obvious reason.

Yeah, that is my concern. I got the cables at over 40% off, but have yet to get the unit. I figured a PSU like that would be out for a fair bit before it was replaced. I mean, it just went into the V2.0 (gold rating) this year I believe. Guess, I will be buying it elsewhere.
