Why no wireless mouse with inductive charger pad?

Thread Starter
There are charger that can be used cordlessly to power devices and recharge batteries.
There are wireless mouse, ehich currently need to plug in to recharge or replace battery.

Why not combine these 2? A wireless mouse that never needs new battery and never needs to be plugged in? I think standard USB's 500mA should be enough to power mouse, and with wireless receiver built into the mouse pad, no need to position receiver at all.

I've seen a couple of ads around the web for mice exactly like what you describe. I think it's a nice idea, especially for a gaming mouse...no cord to affect the motion of the mouse, no batteries to weigh the mouse down (or go bad at inconvenient times).

On the other hand, you get none of the "freedom" of a wireless mouse, and are locked into whatever surface comes on the inductive pad. At the same time, if your wireless isn't really well implemented, there's a potential for lag which would make it useless for gaming. Plus, it'd be even more awkward to take somewhere than a wired mouse, since you'd have to take the whole inductive pad with you.

So although the idea might be worth exploring, I could see it being a hard sell...you might scare gamers off with the fact that it's wireless, and scare non-gamers off with the fact that it's not easily transported (and most likely rather expensive).

He meant WITH a battery, just not having to worry about replacing/charging.
I'd assume that there would also be a charging port on such a product for when you just want to take a charging cable with you.

Hm. The example that first comes to mind for me advertises itself as battery-free.

Guess that one with a battery could be convenient, though it would mean you have the typical wireless mouse battery-weight issue.

A4tech also has a golden capacitor based mouse (no battery) that has like 3 hours of autonomy. Combine those 2 and win.
