New idea for mouse tracking technology

Thread Starter
The other day I was thinking about the problems of CMOS sensors and optical sensors in general. There are many problems asociated with these ones, like Max perfect speed, LOD, Jitteryness, acceleration, and the list continues.

I thought maybe the sensor shouldn't be on the mouse but under the mouse. How ? You need exactly 3 proximity sensors to accurately triangulate the position of an object, so if you put the sensors under the mousepad then you would know the position of it at any time. You can also program the sensors to stop tracking when you lift the mouse, very easily because triangulation is 3D.
This would allow the mice to be lighter, and maybe totally wireless if we use an inductive surface.

What do you think ?

Doesn't it all depend on how accurate the triangulation is? I'm no expert, in fact i know very little, but afaik it's not that accurate? Is that fair?

This seems like a very inefficient way to go about the problem. Presumably, if we can't get a perfect sensor on the moving object itself, getting it right using an externalized tracking mechanism would be even harder.

I think having multiple sensors inside the mouse and then calculating their average makes a lot more sense.

These guys tried the trick already, must be a heavy mouse tho.
Normally I don't care about looks, but this one looks absolutely amazing.
Optical and Laser on the same mouse that allows hybrid tracking:

I haven't found a nice review yet (with jitter test, acceleration test, max speed, and such).

The only thing I know is that on laser or HDST mode you can get a very low LOD, like less than 2cd.

The other thing that bothers me is when you do a rotating movement with your mouse (a curve swipe is enough for that to happen) both sensors will actually "see" different things, as they're not on the same spot... May that screw the consensus movement report or actually provide a more solid approximation of the real motion ?

Here you have a good review of meduza.

Second sensor (3060) in HDST mode is only adjusting the LOD i guess.
