This is where I get a little confused. I know that reference wise at 1080p, 9/10 times the gtx 680 wins. I will be buying a 2560x1440 monitor from samsung so I aim towards the 7970, but I dont know which one to get confused.gif

This gtx 680 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162106&name=Desktop-Graphics-Cards (core clock 1201mhz)

or this 7970 which I saw got easily overclocked to 1400mhz on air pumble a gtx 680 at 1200mhz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121671

The 7970 is currently THE fastest single GPU out. It will max any game at 1080p. It will run most maxed out at higher resolutions.

Correction: 7970 Ghz Edition is the fastest. But still... just improved clock speed...........

Yeah, my bad. I always just talk under the assumption of overclocking to at least a reasonable degree, preferably near max.

At stock, the 680 is faster than the 7970 at 1080p, and equal at 1440p. The 680 is equal to a 7970 Ghz Ed. at 1080 and loses at 1440p. These are both generally and cumulatively; obviously there are exception to the rule with various games.

Overclocked, the 7970 wins more conclusively across the board, but especially at higher resolutions and the 3gb comes into its own when Skyrim is maxed with a shipload of mods at 1440p+

So how would the galaxy gtx 680 @ 1202mhz compare to the 7970 matrix platinum @ 1400mhz?
