Haha I know I just derailed the topic, but I'm genuinely curious.
On topic: I would agree with the other guys about getting headphones that are good and THEN a dedicated desktop Mic. thumb.gif

No, they don't! It's a common misconception. The only time they smell (much like any small animal) is if you don't clean their cage often enough. They have stink glands (like skunks) which are removed so they can't spray. They don't really have a "ferret odor" or anything. I just give them all a bath about once a month and I've never had a problem.
The smell usually comes from improper care / the cage.
Also, everyone seems to think they are vicious too... mine are cuddly and playful. I'm not too sure why they have a bad reputation, or why they are illegal in some states (like CA)

And back on topic, I'd prefer a clip-on mic than a desktop one. If the audiophiles here still keep suggesting a stereo headset, I just might have to listen for once.

In my opinion you are much much much better off getting a decent pair of headphones and a decent soundcard. For me the ultimate for gaming (but still affordable) would be Audio Technica ATH-M50 (~$180 last time i checked) (best sub-200 headphones) and an ASUS Xonar essence STX (~$160 last time i checked). The ATH-M50s dont have a mic though so replace it with any decent stereo headphones.
True stereo is IMHO much better than the "surround headsets" which i reckon are quite gimmicky, because you only have two ears! haha.

I have an X-Fi Titanium.
Haha, well yes, I only have two ears, but the way your ears are shaped causes your brain to detect where sounds are coming from due to variations wink.gif
I'll have to test out virtual surround again when I get home from work. I guess that will make the decision of stereo vs surround for me.

There is no such thing as "Surround" headsets. It's all advertisement schemes.

Get a pair of Sennheisers and call it a day.

Putting this on old for a little while - my computer is in pieces at the moment due to a water leak so I can't try out virtual surround again until a new fitting arrives.

I had a set of these, cause of the amp, i blew a right channel playing music to loud. Since then i got a Set of razer starcraft (Banshee) headset. Wish i would of saved for the turtle beach to re buy, and not the starcract2 headset.

How was the surround on those?
And how do they compare to your replacement?
