Hating on the UI is one thing, but when you look past that, Windows 8 is a much superior OS than Windows 7.
Vista on the other hand was just unusable at release.

To me, this is another one of those bulldozer issues. I REALLY have to see how it is an improvement before I get excited. If the code is more efficient than windows 7 by a fair amount (something that would offset the price and offer a real advantage) then no one should be complaining because you can simply mod the funky UI and a lot of the other issues away to make the OS a efficient version of windows 7.

However, that is with the assumption that the software is as good as you say. If it isn't then the most I will hope for is a new service pack for win 7. smile.gif

As of right now, I think Win 8 is far worse than Vista was.

that is literally factually wrong

Looks like I'm gonna have to share it again. Warnings about the Windows 8 UAC by RagingCain.

edit: Just read it, then decide for yourself.

that's a good change, Linux and OSX use the similar admin system

as for the MS deleting stuff from your PC, that's only for Metro apps and for known viruses and malicious software. It's already done in Windows 7 via system updates.

Here's something to consider:

The predecessor to Windows 7 was Vista. People (generally speaking) were not happy with Vista, and were likely more eager to upgrade.

People are generally happy with Windows 7 so it's possible people are more reluctant to upgrade so early on.

Nope. well not really. Just tying themes together, for outsiders. I will admit I checked though. Kinda wish the news was pinned by dates.

Actually, thanks for the article as I missed that thread when it was posted. Interesting read, from that article and users on tech sites, it seems certain many big corporations won't be using Windows 8 any time soon, if ever. On tablets it's a different story, but not on desktops and conventional laptops.

this

also, Windows 8 has already gotten MS profit, all those tablets, desktops, laptops, etc coming with Windows 8.

But they can't report the profits till next quarter (Q1 2013)

I agree. There's no way that is going to happen. Anybody know what the corporate penetration of Vista was?

On the PC side I imagine its going to do poorly, But on tablet and mobiles it has a chance.
There are already a Win7 UI theme. It's called Start8, ClassicShell, or Pokki. Of course this doesn't bring Aero back but start bar is more than enough. I actually don't mind the non-Aero feel.
