Yep, or they'll wait for a superior OS to be released... because so far there isn't one.

Microsoft is trying to make WIndows 8 a tablet OS, remember this. This means removing basic Desktop functionality and making companies pay in order to have their "license" to use their program on windows 8 (around 50,000$ a year). A few non-profit programs and Notch are really the only few things that are stopping microsoft from completely locking down the OS.

I UNDERCLOCKED my i5 to 1.5ghz and STILL this baby flieeees. I have never seen such well optimized OS till now. Browsing, scrolling, file IO, notifications its amazing.

LOL

I have speedstep on and my CPU spends 90% of the time on the desktop at 1.6GHz, still flies.

Assuming he also has speedstep enabled, wouldn't his desktop speeds actually be lower than the 1.5GHz he quoted?

No, they're making an OS that is compatible with tablets so that they can finally enter the current millennium and provide a viable Windows 8 mobile experience that does not segregate itself from the Windows 8 desktop experience.

Apple has shown that presenting familiar experiences across multiple platforms helps products to sell immensely, but that was not going to be possible with Windows as it is.

Now people can easily have an eco-system that seamlessly and effortlessly synchronises between desktop computers, mobile computers and phones not just electronically, but visually and as an overall experience.

Your comment about Notch etc is lol. LoL.

You can like or dislike what they're doing, but at least inject some non media dictated "reality" into your views.

That is just to get it on the App Market. You can still install from other sources.

No, Speedstep would actually overclock him to 1.6 from 15. It just changes the multi to 16 tongue.gif

Windows 7 is just as fast as Windows 8, if I'm honest. Except the shutdown stuff.

7 isn't too slow on a 1.2Ghz single core AMD C-30 with a decent HDD, a 1.5Ghz i5 is beastly compared to that,

Also, try Vista on a 2Ghz Athlon XP..was just as fast as it was on XP despite everyone acting like Vista was slower.

Windows 8 is faster, but the difference is so small you'll never notice any of it if you run an SSD, and only boot/shutdown times on a HDD.

In what way? I think XPs longevity is partly influenced by Vista being an extremely raw product and forming a stigma as a result about Win 7 as its direct successor in the mind of an average pc user. Most people are quite conservative when it comes to operating systems, but in the case of Win 8 - there's nothing really significant in terms of functionality and performance for a desktop user to make an upgrade an important necessity rather then just a software update.
