The population of the planet, not to mention the number of people using devices that require an operating system, has grown VASTLY since the days when Windows 7 was introduced.

It's the same thing with movie ticket sales. People always comment on how much more money movies gross these days, as opposed to in the 1930s when "Gone with the wind" came out. Simple fact of the matter is, there are more people watching movies today and ticket prices are higher, so making a movie that out grosses GWTW is easy, even if the movie "bombs".

It's called inflation in regards to the movie prices thing but you're on the ball with that. The thing is whether MS can get people to use "dumb terminal" devices (ARM pads) with their OS more as the general trend is leaning to more people buying those devices more often than they buy/upgrade their computers (thus buy or upgrade their computer's software which means OS). As sad as it sounds...the majority of consumers would rather struggle to get work done with a touch device than they would with a "traditional" laptop/desktop.
