[DailyTech] Windows 8 Early Adoption is Well Behind Pace Set by Windows 7 - Page 5

Might the security have something to do with the Marketplace? Supposedly all Metro apps have to go through the Marketplace, and it seems like the only UAC problems you're having has to do with Metro apps. Possibly an anti-theft/DRM system?

Yes in fact Brutuz is right that this is on purposely linked to UAC, not just some error. However, it interferes with administration and non-metro tile based application such as "unsigned windows 8" applications like Atiman Uninstaller.

I am not okay being denied full control, having controls reverted without my say so, being denied applications I want to install or run, and apparently at the Wim and scrutiny of Microsoft in real time.

That's how I found out about this whole Admin/UAC fubar and how deep the MetroUI controls go, and it is pretty deep. Disabling UAC cold turkey broke Disk Management in the OS for me. The filterManager could not load LUAFV which controls virtual file systems, such as raid/jbods, making my raid controller flakey and my raid frequently dismount during access. It also interfered with IRST although intel may not fully support win8 yet, so that may have been a coincidence.

Yes, this is true. But you still have to consider that I might someday decide to make use of these metro apps (you never know) and then I'm gonna have to deal with all of this on a case by case basis. Archive access, file associations, two things I can think of that are likely to become a dreaded operation to deal with.

I lost a video archive because the owner was myself from Windows 7. I didn't quite understand what happened but now that I realized like you did earlier I wasn't full admin and unable to change ownership and apply changes uniformly. I lost seasons of Whose Line and Star Trek Voyager through a format and RAiD rebuild :/

You know, this may be off-topic, but i was reminded of it by this thread somehow:

Why does the DVD burner always want to write the desktop.ini to the disk, RW or not? is this from 7 cause I never had 7.

You have to be joking. I go to the Program Files folder all the time. Do you happen to have Steam ? Steam alone requires you to go to their folder in order to do many things, including troubleshooting (deleting everything except for the Steamapps folder and Steam.exe), or to do something as simple as make a backup of the screenshots you took during games.

I was referring to the apps folder (for Store apps) - not the whole of program files. I probably glanced at the screenshot wrong.

Any program that stores data in its program files directory is wrong.
