Can you use a bay res without the pump inside?

Hi guys, I've been building computers and overclocking for a while now, but I'm new here. Anyway, I'm looking to build my first water cooling system and I want to use a bay res (this one specifically) primarily because I don't like the looks of the optical drive slots on my case, the Fractal Design Arc Mini.

I would like my system to be silent at idle, and mounting the pump inside a bay res would make it difficult to accomplish this due to the vibrations transferring to the res and case. Is it possible to use the XSPC bay res without having the pump inside? If so, are there any downsides?

I have that reservoir in storage, so I have some experience with it. It would work, but the pump might not get as much water as it should because you'd have to make sure the reservoir is almost completely full in order for the water level to reach the actual ports inside the res area
