New RAM clock and timings

Thread Starter
My brand new G. Skill Ripjaws F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL (x2) RAM defaults to 1600 Mhz instead of 1866 and the timings are 11-11-11-28. The XMP profile is activated in BIOS and visible in AIDA64 under SPD but it doesn't seem to be working since the RAM is stuck at 1600 with what seem to be the wrong timings.

Can someone help me out?

My mobo is AsRock Z77 Extreme 4.

My mobo is AsRock Z77 Extreme 4.

Your speed will go down as you put more stress on the IMC. I would actually aim for 9-9-9-24 timings with a 1600Mhz frequency

You mentioned the SPD, http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=378 shows that the SPD is 1600Mhz anyway, so, not sure what the issue is.

Regards

So should I set the timings manually to 9-9-9-24?

As for the SPD, I thought it was supposed to show 1866 instead of 1600. What's the best way to monitor RAM clocks while gaming to verify that it does indeed go up to 1866?

It won't go up to that, once you set it in the BIOS it's set as that.

Yes, I would go in, manually set the memory to 1600Mhz and then set the timings to 9-9-9-24.

Thanks for your help, compuman145! smile.gif

I've contacted G. Skill just to be on the safe side and this is their reply:

You are using two memory kits on the same system. Using two memory kits, even if they have the same specs and are the same model, would most likely result in compatibility issues and also result in XMP not working properly. XMP only works with the memory kit that it was programmed on, not with combinations of other memory kits, even if they are the same model.

For correct operation at the rated speed, please manually change the memory settings in BIOS to the following:

DRAM frequency = 1866Mhz
CL Timing = 9-10-9-28
Command Rate = 2
DRAM Voltage = 1.50V

If your system is unstable, please increase the DRAM voltage to 1.60V.

The above settings should allow your system to operate properly at rated speed. If it does not, feel free to contact us again with the things that you have tried, and we'll be glad to help you out.

I'll make the changes and post back after testing.

Seems OK so far.

DRAM:FSB ratio in AIDA64 is 28:3. Is that normal?
