Oh well. In the box in my closet it goes.

You using that power brick that came with it to power it or an USB cable ? Might be power issue as mine was also crashing frequently when I powered it through the PC USB port.

The USB dropping was the crappy included USB hub, and the HDMI toggling on/off can be fixed with a firmware update (http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/support.html)

It's working okay right now. Not the best for what I was looking for, but for $40, I can't complain.

Hm. Good to know. I must remember to update firmware in mine as well. Still have not got around to poking at it more than just the initial testing. Does yours get hot ? I have seen complaints in the net about it getting so hot that the case melts when left on for extended periods of time so have plan to cut a small hole over CPU on mine and put a small vRAM heatsink on it. Granted, the one I got is already "new" version with small ventilation holes underside and the port labels on the case (the "first" version, as far as I understand was just a smooth plastic without ventilation holes or text for which port is what).

What's wrong with Roku? I've had one for a few years and love it.

Yes, it gets pretty toasty, but I haven't seen any detrimental performance (or melted casing tongue.gif) because of it. If I do I will probably look into doing the heatsink mod as well.

Well I got a bit time today so did that heatsink mod. As I had no guitar playing plastic thingy that was suggested in the guide then had to use my own thumbnail which got slightly scratched in the process.

Started around the HDMI port and moved carefully around the edges prying the stuff open, the HDMI and end opposite to it are the hardest, on the sides there seem to be a bit softer clips holding it togehter. The hardest spot to get open was the end opposite to the HDMI.

The most sensible approach seems to be prying away just the smaller cover with ventilation holes as that leaves the CPU, RAM and flash chips bare while leaving the WiFi antenna in place so you dont have to deal with putting that back in afterwards. I used the small vRAM heatsinks I ordered a while ago from dealextreme for my video cards when they went under water. You can get 8 of them for couple of euros (just ships for a long while) and they have already 3M two sided 0.05 mm thick thermal tape applied to them so can be just dropped right on. I put 2 of these small heatsinks on the CPU and as they were slightly larger then one edge reached the RAM chips as well. After that I just marked with a red pen the area I would like to cut out on the cover.

Don't have my dremel at hand atm so had to use whatever tools I had available, which in this particular case were a 3mm wood drill bit and small battery drill, small wire cutters and a knife. The plastic is surprisingly strudy and about 2 mm thick so its quite hard to cut with a knife so I had to use the drill and wire cutters for making the initial hole and then used knife to sort of smooth out the edges a bit and fine tune the hole so the heatsink would fit through.

Hopefully, once I get around to actually finding time to play around with this thing it will now run substantially cooler and perhaps, if its needed can manage even a little overclock if I find a good ROM for it.

so how do you connect a keyboard/mouse? through the USB? so can you only connect one at a time? Is it possible to use a logitech unifying usb receiver to use both keyboard and mouse, also is it possible to connect this to my phone via bluetooth/wifi and use my phone as the keyboard/mouse?

Edit: oh and is it DLNA capable, I'm not seeing anything on that

I snagged some heatsinks from Newegg, just in case I need them. What I really want is some way to boost the WiFi signal. Have you seen anything that would suggest an external WiFi adapter will work?

Edit: oh and is it DLNA capable, I'm not seeing anything on that

You can use a USB hub to plug in multiple things. A unifying receiver also works. I've not really had the need for a keyboard, so I'm just using a mouse. Bluetooth does not work out of the box, but there are some custom ROMs that have it. I'm not sure what DLNA is.
