Sorry, no.

The highest markup I've ever seen on an Apple products was 76%, and that was the raw BOM, not development costs, manufacturing costs... etc.

My kids had iMacs for a bit. They are not too bad at gaming. The issue is that you are stuck with the hardware that Apple provides. If you don't like some aspect you can't really change it and there are few options at purchase. I paid $1500 per iMac 5 years ago and sold them last year for $600 each so they cost $900 in 4 years (not including the cost of additional RAM and a new HD) but the gaming speed was not great at the end in modern games. With the top of the line 27" you are looking at an investment of at least $2200+tax, maybe more. If you go for an iMac, the best thing would be to resell the machine just before the new one comes out and you should be only $300-$400 out of pocket. I know lots of people that go down this route and usually sell just before their insurance (AppleCare) is up.

I would definitely not go for a mid-level iMac this time. 650M 512MB graphics, 5400rpm 2.5" drive and no way to upgrade the RAM? No thanks.

I know the thread is about the GTX680MX but phill was saying the GTX680M is only 10% slower than the desktop GTX680. So I was correcting him. We can all make mistakes but I don't like it when incorrect information is being spread around.

I just built a laptop with a 680m in it less than a week ago. Bent. So so so bent. I knew I would get out-upgraded but I didn't think it would happen quite so soon.

But are these available yet? I know the iMac won't be until sometime in December.

That's about as false as it gets. Sorry but I've gotta pitch into this as well... XD

The GTX 680M is about as fast as a GTX 480. It's around half as fast as the desktop GTX 680. It's not 10% slower. Not sure where this guy got that info from but he's sorely mistaken. The GTX 680MX will probably be around 20% faster than the 680M. Which isn't bad for a laptop GPU.
