The GTX 680M is about as fast as a GTX 480. It's around half as fast as the desktop GTX 680. It's not 10% slower. Not sure where this guy got that info from but he's sorely mistaken. The GTX 680MX will probably be around 20% faster than the 680M. Which isn't bad for a laptop GPU.

Of course it's false xD But the important thing to note is that the 680M can play all current games maxed out no problem. Upcoming games, turn down MSAA a bit and it'll still be smooth as hell. Not to mention I can't even tell the difference between 1920x1080 and like 1600x900.... which is why I hate desktop elitists tongue.gif can you put your desktop in a backpack? or play it anywhere other than your desk in your room at home? nope

Aaarghhhhhhh... so yeah I made the payment for my M17x R4 almost 2 months ago. Buying it from reseller Hidevolution because they ship to where I live. Dell has back ordered the shipment twice, the most recent time at least I get Windows 8 and the 3840qm instead of 3820qm...

It should arrive to me by mid-November... -.- and now I see the 680MX... Oh well the 680M can max out everything atm so I'll upgrade when the 780M comes out tongue.gif

Before you jump to conclusions based on specs - check this out - Alienware M18x Benchmark Thread. Look at those scores. I know these beasts are OC'ed and all, but for a laptop to hit 15K P GPU in 3DMark11 or 50K P GPU Vantage is pretty incredible. It's basically beating a stock GTX 680 SLI

Haha i miss those DX7 gaming days. My first PC had an Nvidia geforce 2 MX and the PC i had right after had a GF4 MX440

My GPU history kinda went like this = GF2 MX>GF4 MX440>GF6 6150LE>ATI X1300>ATI X1950Pro>ATI X1950XT>NV 8800GT>AMD 5850>AMD 7970

According to Notebook Check this thing has a 122W TDP... I can't see that fitting into many laptops.

They were already pushing it by having the 680M, which is a clear winner in the mobile space, be an underclocked desktop 670, unlike having it be an underclocked x60 part like they did in the past and like how AMD still does it with their flagship mobile parts (of course with the x870 desktop part on their side). Hopefully this will at least drive the 680M's outlandish price down a bit.

EDIT: Didn't notice that this thread was necro'd doh.gif

It's good when you're on the road a lot. Personally, I rotate one month working and one week at home on average (working away from home.) I also have a fair bit of leisure time at work, so having nearly as much power as a desktop gaming PC in a laptop's form factor is quite handy.

That said, I think the 680MX is going to be an even poorer value than the 680M, 675M and 670M. I looked at these cards compared to AMD's offerings; the 7970M (a downlocked 7870) trades blows with the 680M without the "Never Settle" drivers -- which is no big deal until you see the ridiculous price difference.

^From a laptop that comes with a single 670M at stock, which is essentially GF104. You can already get the 7970M for roughly the same cost and the performance is through the roof compared to the nV offering.

I really don't understand how they're making money in mobile.

For those who are interested, it appears to be getting a 3DMark 11 of around P6700 or about 10% faster than a desktop GTX580. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-680MX.83519.0.html

Not bad for a mobile card (especially for a TDP of sub 125W) but compared to desktops its a generation and a half late given that the new cards will appear in 3 or 4 months time. Of course, driver improvements may increase its performance somewhat. Still a beast for what it is, really.

6700 isn't too much of an improvement however. My first run of 3D mark with my 680M got nearly 6300, and some people have gotten over 7000 with some overclocking. When people get great specs with this card and latest drivers I think it'll easily be around the 7000 mark.
