Sorry to hear frown.gif Cancer is never good, nearly lost my mother when I was 7 to it, and the resounding effects chemotherapathy put her through are still there.

I would think, you could do some custom work, coupled with the Hue lighting control you should have what you're looking for. You can also check out my build log, see where I replaced the mesh on the panel with acrylic.

I don't mind the screen portion of the side panel below the acrylic window, but I do mind the fan mounts shining through when I've got my rig lit up with the LEDs and my cold cathodes. So is removing the side panel fan mount possible while leaving the grid intact?

Hi mate,

Yes you can dremel the 200mm side fan mount without affecting the mesh, sorry for the photo quality, this room is quite dark at moment..,,

just bend back each point of the mesh, remove and dremel away thumb.gif

hope this helps mate

*edit....
Now you mention it, its a pretty good idea. I may join you with removing the mount's wink.gif
Now my question is how would I mount the 200mm fan without those mounts... Cause I don't like the mounts but I want my fan there. Anybody have any suggestions for me there?thumb.gif

Hi all.

It came yesterday. My brand new Phantom 820 in white smile.gif Now all I need is a water cooling setup that I already ordered but it seems that in Germany most of the suppliers do not have all what I wanted in stock. So while waiting for the cooling bits odds and ends I been reading this thread and also noticed like so many others that the side panel window on the 820 is not too big. It actually will hide all the goodness and shininess of a rather expensive cooling rig. As a newbie to this case modding stuff, why not start small and from somewhere :)Somewhere like side panel made out of acrylic plexi glass.

I saw IT Divas build on the stretched Phantom and the opening and closing. Thats cools stuff right there.

So I nibbled away in Google SketchUp and this is what I came up with.

Anyone have any hint/tips/feedback?

The SketcUp file is here if anyone needs it.

I think dont make the ENTIRE side panel out of plexy. Rather have an aluminium frame (to hide where the side panel fits onto the case) and have about 80%-90% of it see-through. Just my 2cents.gif

Here's the lowdown on doing a quick and easy side window mod for the switch 810, or the new 820. Both use the same size side panel.

By making the acrylic fill the largest area possible, you'll have the most area to be creative with your cutout.

By making use of the side panel's upper and lower channels, you won't have to bolt or tape anything, and you can change color later if you want.

Cut your acrylic to fit from the front to as close to the rear as you can, while leaving just enough clearance for the edge of the back panel where the latch mechanism is . . . . See the pic!

Cut your acrylic so that with it slipped into the lower channel, you can just get it to clear at the lower edge of the top channel.

Put a couple cable ties laid flat on each other between the lower channel and the edge of the acrylic to raise it up enough to engage into the top channel.

Use 1/4" acrylic, and with a few "squeezes" of the channel, (or short bits of plastic edge molding, after you have your fitment correct, and you can have the acrylic locked in tight enough that it won't rattle.

Darlene

Here's the cable ties to raise the acrylic up from the lower channel to where it engages the top channel:

This is the plastic edge trim I mentioned, it's been left real long to make it easy to see:

Depends on what you really want to do. Personally I replaced the mesh on my side panel with acrylic, and all can be seen now. I think it looks really slick.

So my white Phantom 820 will be here tomorrow! Now I just have to wait for my Seasonic x-850 to get back from RMA so I can run crossfire again. Here is what my system looks like right now biggrin.gif

Just got my replacment white 820 delivered (my last one had a manufacture defect causing the door to jam against the chassis). Unfortunatly the replacment seems to have been used as a football whilst in transit and has a dented side panel air intake, so now thats getting RMA'd lol, atleats it isnt costing me anything but time.

Wont be getting the replacment till about thursday/friday next week. Such is life...good thing im in no rush lol.

Where did you get it from?
I got mine from Newegg and the front panel was warped or a little off on measurements whilst being made. Either way, it's all be completely jammed on the front of the chassis. Removing it nearly snapped it in half. When I got it back on, which was next to impossible, I left it alone.

I'm sticking with aluminum cases in the future I think.
