What are the most stable/ best performance drivers for Gigabyte 7950 - Page 2

@twitch, I believe the most stable right now is 12.8, never had any issues with it and I actually returned to it after installing 12.11 beta.

I'd have to agree with twitch, 12.11 beta gives me issues after installing it (coming from 12.8). I had zero issues with 12.8 and once I installed 12.11 beta, Crysis started showing some graphic issues (white dots and tearing).

Yes, I did do a clean install via safe mode-drive sweeper then install new drivers and I still got issues. I'm neither an AMD or Nvidia fan, I'm the biggest best bang for your buck card afficionado, but I do have to say that my experience from a 5770 and now my 7950 shows that AMD drivers are such a pain to update. I've also had an 8800GT and a GTX460 and I never had any issues with installing or even upgrading those drivers. I think after going through 4 cards from AMD and 5 cards from Nvidia the drivers from AMD are a PITA to upgrade, so I understand where twitch is coming from.

I guess different users just have different experiences and bashing someone for being ignorant instead of just helping someone out is something I've really started hating here at OCN. Come on people , were a community here, be adult enough to understand that there are times people are frustrated and they just want to get some help... not a tongue lashing. 2cents.gif

Pay it forward folks! thumb.gif

It seems that the 12.11b has messed some people up to thinking performance is the only thing there is to a driver. First and foremost a driver needs to work, performance comes second.

The most stable driver I've used was 12.4 WHQL. The 12.7b was a good driver as well, interestingly 12.8 WHQL that was supposed to be almost the same driver was more problematic. Right now I'm using 12.9b which is a good driver once you get it installed. I got a bluescreen twice installing those on a fresh Windows install.

My recommendation would be 12.7b.

12.8 works just fine and dandy for me, my 7950 can OC like a beast on it. Currently running 1175/1525 at 1.25V from stock 900/1250 clocks and not going over 51C at any time in any benchmark or game. I wish the 12.11 beta worked for me though, the performance increase people are claiming would be AWESOME. Like i said though the only thing I dislike about 12.8 is the battlefield 3 stuttering issue as its becomes extremely annoying stuttering off of your aim on someone and getting killed lol.

@twitch

I did the same thing, did a fresh install of win 7 and 12.11 gave me issues. Good thing I made an image before installing 12.11, so I re-imaged then did an install of 12.8 and so far no issues.

Rule of thumb is that everyone's computer will behave slightly different so no one can tell you what would be the best for you. For me I have had no problems with any of the drivers since the 7950 launch with my Gigabyte WF3 and would simply suggest you stay with the most up to date driver.

I am running 12.10 happily at the moment waiting for 12.11 to come out of beta.
Success.

Tried those after hearing about the massive performance increase to BF3 but as soon as I even OC 25Mhz it gives me crazy horizontal lines on my desktop when scrolling or well.... anything. So OCing with that driver is a no go therefore not for me ^^.

CCC 12.10 is officially out and I'm wondering if it's any better than 12.8. I'm thinking if I should even try to install it and go through the headache of all the steps needed to just make a driver update with AMD.

I really wish they would fix this (not holding my breath), actually the funny thing is, I've been hoping since 2007 that AMD would get their drivers straight. Not trying to bash anything it's just that I can compare driver installation experiences between the green and red. For some reason I never had any issues with my 8500GT, 8800GT and GTX460 when I installed the latest drivers or even when I upgraded. Compare that with my 5770, 6870 and now my 7950 and I've always had to use driver sweeper (and the like) and then go to safe mode, etc. just to get one driver to work.rolleyes.gif

Don't get me wrong, I love my 7950 @ 1100 / 1600 1.125v and I can also game (Crysis, BF3, and Skyrim) and bench @ 1200 / 1750 1.25v using Kombustor 20 minute run and 3dmark11. It's just really frustrating sometimes when you know you have a great card but your drivers bog you down. redface.gif

After lurking for a few minutes found this guy with a 12.10 issue with Crysis 2, I guess I'm sticking with 12.8.
