Well made NPC's on the other hand, with a bit of imagination, don't distract me like that at all, considering they're not real - but neither is the game itself. It's just an illusion so it all requires imagination to some degree. The I game to escape the daily routines (and people to some extent), not to be reminded of it. Sure you can always "Role play" on MMO's but tbh, i think thats just awkward and weird.

I remember being in a PUG in EQ2 and then these two guys started role playing they were jedi from starwars...in group chat. Awkward to say the least. What the hell do you say when some one starts talking about how good of a pediwan they are and such...I didn't understand most of what they said.

I am probably a little guilty of getting into a game too much lately...I've been playing an old PS2 game called Persona 3. Had a tear roll down my cheek when a person gave their life to save another one of the characters...used her life force to save the guy she loved...*sniff* It was beautiful *sniff*

I can get into a story if the story is good...something that doesn't happen much these days with newer games. As for the getting angry at a map not going your way...that will just happen. I tend to get up set when I have lots of a spawning to my death syndrome. I don't take it out on any one or anything but the opponents in the game though

i don't know what it was but that game sucked me in.
also dragon age ii is one of the first times i felt emotion towards my character, when you leave the mine with your sister i was shocked. i didn't even really like the game, i guess it just caught me off guard.

Sounds like me. Minus the college part, and Dragon Age II.

Oblivion and Dragon Age 1 were excellent though, and i wasted huge amounts of time playing those. Now my time is dedicated to Skyrim and, on occasion, The Witcher 1/2. Bethesda could learn alot about character creation by simply looking at what Dragon Age: Origins accomplished.

If i ever fancy gaming to socialize or to spend time with people though, i hop on titles such as TF2, Borderlands 2 or Killing Floor. I don't play these for the immersion, just to socialize.

This was in like 2001 or so, but I still remember when I found out his spawn was broken, I just walked away from the computers s and didn't go back til the next day.

Those were the days. I remember working on my epic for paladin and giving an NPC the wrong item and then having one of those "oh crap" moments since it took flipping forever to farm. Never did get the epic. But the Soulfire worked when I was just standing around town wanting a flaming sword heh.

Counter-Strike ruined my life
I know I have lost myself in game or two. If I start feeling that gamer rage though I just walk away. After a game stops being fun I just have to walk away. Normally though If I play too much of a game, I start to have dreams that it is real. I think one of the funniest dreams I had was being left 4 dead. XD

I'm of the belief that you're not too into a game until you start writing and editing fan-fiction for it, and/or buying body pillows with the main character printed on it. Getting mad because you wanted to win or finish a level is just human nature.

Or you name your child after a video game character. XD

What? LOL

Like people are naming their kids Twilight Sparkle or some trash? If it is just names like "Twilight" then that isn't bad...I actually know a lady named Twilight and she is approaching 80 years old now...so she named well before the existence of any MLP stuff. The names from the show are really normal names for the most part...eccentric, hipster style names maybe, but still just names...maybe not Pinkie Pie though. #Disclaimer: I am not a "Bronie", but I do watch the show with my daughter a lot...it isn't bad. The newest season can get rather intense in some episodes even.#

Though this has me thinking. If naming a child after a character is getting too much into a game then what iconic game character do you like enough to name a child after? Unique names that obviously come from a game (like some one who's never even seen a television screen could be named "Mario"...that's a common name)

I think "Link" would be a good one...my wife would never go for it though.

If my last name was Wong I would sooooo have demanded my son have been named Fie Fong...though I don't know how iconic that character is to any one but me. That might even be a common name though I've never met any one named Fie Fong Wong in real life
