You're also guilty of being stuck in the past. With companies able to get multi-million dollar capitol investitures from people via sources like Kickstarter, bloated profit-mongers like Activision are no longer the only show in town People buy these titles because they have nowhere else to go. Want a sports title? EA. Want to play a MMO? Blizzard. That's all rapidly changing.
You're seeing the landscape from the valley and not the mountain. When you become aware of all the advancement in these various industries and see how they all mesh, you see for the first time since the Wild West, the inception of the net, and other frontier-esque moments, you see that things are changing.
People are becoming more-tech savvy. My nephews and nieces are all little PC whizzes. And they aren't the exception to the rule. They are the rule. Tech-adoption isn't linear. It's exponential. And you think Linux is a minority? Have you ever looked at the server side of things?
Expect to see everything running on Linux.

I wasnt trying to disprove, rather just stating that greg isnt as naive as he is made out to be...All your points are known to me. Although I dont believe steam acting on linux is just for linux, I see it as more of a marketing campaign for the little guy, which garners support from linux users obviously and increases hopes from OSX for game support followed by more users who want to see what steam is all about from the news articles (Windows) Its a win win situation for Gabe. Linux is the minority in terms of the average consumer, both sides of my family use windows, every school I attended uses windows, General Motors, Mazda, Toyota, Suzuki, Yamaha still use Windows as far as warranty claims is concerned. Yes, I understand that linux has a larger role in the server world, but that isnt the mom and dad running a linux server in the basement lol, yet.
Im not saying linux is never going to grow, after all we need something will push innovation if linux is the one to do that then I support it
