Clearly I don't pay enough in taxes as the education system is a complete joke.

True story.

Isolate how? By using something different than Windows or OS X? Well by that logic then you being Canadian makes you actively choosing to isolate and segregate yourself because you don't live in the USA or Europe.
Flawless logic, I commend you for being such a noble mind.

You're violating their TOS by not using a supported operating system. I never will understand the die hard linux crowd (I used linux too fedora, redhat, suse, ubuntu[sort of])
I get it Gabe newell is the most awesomest person ever. Because he ported 3 games that all run the same crappy 8 year old engine to linux. Big Effing deal. I only play one of those games and not very much. Port over my 400 plus games and we'll talk. I am not trading in a 200 dollar operating system for a free operating system that is "open" to miss out on 20 grand worth of games. Not to mention my thousands of dollars worth of productivity programs that won't run on linux.
If you guys spent as much time porting over useful stuff as you didnt moaning about how you're so down trodden more of us would have switched over.

ToS doesn't actually say you're required to use Windows or OS X. The requirements do say this so you are right on that aspect. The reason why "we" aren't porting things over is because we can't. NVIDIA and AMD are required to buff up the drivers -- Not the Linux users. The makers of the game are required to make it compatible -- Not the Linux users. It's like saying that Windows users should port Halo to the PC because they don't want to use a console. Where is the logic in that? It's up to the developers on what they want to support. Gabe is venturing into uncharted territory and with Windows 8 looking like a failure and OEM's offering Linux it can be an open market. Imagine if you never used Windows when you first started using a computer and it was Linux. Think you would be using Windows? Probably not very much, you would stick to Linux, so if computers are being shipped on Linux the new generation will learn on it and it will rise in the mainstream.

LOL you actually almost made me fall out of my chair with that one. Good one sir.

only reason to even use windows is for games and that is no fault of linux. It's the fault of developers OpenGL actually has better performance than directX.

I would ditch windows in a heart beat if valve really did port all its games to linux.

Here is just one example of how linux is superior. When you install windows 7 You reboot about 10-15 times just to install updates as you know as a linux user you reboot one time and you have a fully updated linux system. Oh and its free..... Please dude you sound so dumb its comical.

And dont give me that "basic productivity" crap you can do everything on linux you can do on windows except all the apps are free and updated regularly by people who care if it works lol.

Really do wish I didn't have to run bloated/insecure/closed source windows at all but I am a gamer so no way around it atm

You pretty much just called Linux Users the "Hipsters" of the computer world. I don't think they will like that very much.

I was born in Canada - not a choice.

People use Linux over other operating systems of their own volition - a choice.

I don't commend you on your dull mind.

Deal with it.

Wow so people shouldn't choose things that go against the grain? OK end this thread mods because it's not going to be productive with so many close minded individuals on both sides.

Once steam gets its Linux drivers in Order, Watch the Mass exodus to Linux happen
post #49 of 82
Like I was mentioning before, linux is great. However at the moment it is not a viable choice for the average user because of the lack of support it has. Give it support like the other two main competitors and it would be a 1st draft choice at hand

Get a life and learn to read.

1. System Requirements != Terms of Service

2. WINE/Linux is not under the system requirements because Blizzard simply will not provide support for the Linux crowd. They have stated thousands of times now that using WINE under Linux is perfectly fine as long as the game runs without any hacks ( when playing an online-only game ). As doing such would then violate the ToS for using hacks. WINE itself is not a hack, and Blizzard has stated that it will not get you banned ( or at least should not, but no program is perfect ).

3. Woo hoo you've used Linux, great job. Did you understand it though?

Oh and I have emailed them and asked. As thousands of others have and they always say using WINE is fine.
