EDIT: PLUS 1 on Warcraft IV

I often wonder why I just can't get into SC2...I can load up SC1 and still enjoy it today, but SC2 just doesn't seem all that fun to me. It seems a lot of the world has forgotten about the game. No one ever mentions it any more.

But yeah...I think they just got really lucky with WoW. One spark of genius in room full of candle flames of good ideas. Or perhaps they had a spark with Diablo 2 as well. I've never played the game...but I know it is popular. I like my mouse too much to subject it to all those extreme amounts of clicking.

Another swing and a miss.

I referenced iOS and WIndows as relics due to their nature of being close sourced. You then equated Linux and Windows and iOS as in competition. headscratch.gif Just poor syntax on your part. You then reinforced that notion by poorly phrasing your second reply. Syntax, dude, learn it. To be fair, since Android is based on Linux I can see where you failed to comprehend my diction as well.

And there you go again. I've now been attacked by you twice. Learn how to attack a viewpoint and not a person please. Your failure (note I never called you a failure. Just your ad hominem and approach at criticizing my ideas, you on the other hand can't seem to discern the difference. Ergo I figured I would spell it out for you.) to refute my arguments with any sort of rebuttal other than, "You're wrong," is laughable.

Why am I wrong? What makes my opinion based on current trends wrong and yours based on pixie dust and moonbeams right? You get it now dude?

So yeah, you shouldn't have ever phrased your opening reply with, "Only in your own little mind." But thanks for doing so. It gave me the chance to educate everyone as to what type of person you are. Now get back on topic if you have anything to say.

I didn't drop it. You were off on a tangent about Gabe and how his motives aren't altruistic. I agree with that. I just didn't find it necessary to reply to or really on topic.

Regarding the last sentence in your aforementioned reply: Linux is growing. It's used at countless universities, and all those companies you mentioned have probably got a linux server hosting their web, smtp, etc. We disagree with what the endgame looks like, but that's ok. People are allowed to disagree, and we had both already stated our viewpoints. I figured we were good thumb.gif

you're not missing much the only 2 games they ever made worth a crap were Warcraft 2 and Diablo 1 the rest of them weren't that great. Why everyone is screaming the sky is falling is beyond me.

to the other guy saying thousands emailed. Thats great. Im happy... send me a screen shot of the email of them confirming you can use 3rd party software to run their program.

Take a look around the internet. It's no secret, others have posted emails and Blizzard have stated such in public plenty of times.

Do your own research, write your own email, and then come back after you have facts and not just your opinion. ( why would I bother posting something if all you want to do is go against it saying I'm lying when you can get that proof yourself ) It's all over the blizzard forums for just about all of their games, they always explicitely state you can use Linux and Wine but they will not provide support for them if anything goes wrong.

Also, Wine does not modify the game or service or their files. It simply emulates the Windows API in which is being used.

Same here, I've never had anything against Linux but the sheer amount of hassle you can go through to make a single driver work properly nevermind other things like games makes Linux impractical for most people because they don't have days on end to spend getting their machine up and running again after say a format. Yes yes theres things like imaging software but 1. How many of those work properly with Linux? and 2. Imaging only gets you so far, you still have all the hassle with drivers whenever you upgrade them with Linux. By now I would of thought after so many years Linux would of got such things as issues with drivers ironed out.. but nope, their still there, rampant as they have always been, sadly.

Not nearly. Four years ago driver issues were 100x worse, ten years ago the only thing that can be said is lol. Today... the majority of drivers needed are built into the kernel. The only area where things get iffy is certain wireless chips ( such as broadcom chips ) in my experience with quite a few computers tongue.gif

Video drivers both open source and proprietary are as easy as a snap of the fingers to install and get working.

Exactly =)

People need to get past the mindset that Linux is not user friendly. That's not nearly as true as it once was.

This is still my point though, the drivers aren't as good as they are for Windows still - not just when it comes to wireless stuff but a lot of hardware in general, theres a lot of little niggles here and there that still make drivers a pain in the arse for Linux. I know Linux is significantly better than it was, thats been the case since Vista was released but to somebody like me who juggles a insane amount of projects at any one time I do not have the time to troubleshoot stupid Linux driver issues that with a little more care wouldn't even exist.
