Yes, and the MS-made streamlined version fits on about the same disk XP did.

Same for Win7 SP1.

Same will be for SP2 if it was made.

Downloading and installing updates from disk is not comparable to using a stream-lined version from MS.

Ah, well that stinks they won't make a SP2. Bundling service packs with Windows does save time, whether that time is trivial or not depends on connection speed and personal opinion. I suppose if I were a staunch windows 7 user that refused to ever upgrade to 8, then I might be disappointed too. Heck, it'll disappoint me a little now when it costs me some extra time when reinstalling Windows, but again only a little. Is not the lack of windows 7 SP2 Microsoft's way of forcing people to migrate to 8? Maybe for those who really hate the time it takes now to update everything after a fresh install, especially on many machines.

There seems to be a sub-topic regarding liking or disliking windows 8 due to UI. Yeah, it took me a minute to get used to when testing it but I will eventually upgrade; I want to give it some time to for decent hardware drivers to be released, as well as any initial bugs to get fixed first. I actually like the new UI, and that's just my preference. People that want to stick with 7, hey that's cool too.

All of this seems to boil down to personal preference as far as I see it. Now if windows 8 proves to be inferior in terms of stability, or compatibility down then road then that would be a major flaw.

Edit - Come to think of it, I use 7 disks with slipstreams updates, which obviously puts me in a different category from those that do not.

Of course it is but they'll never admit it. Their greed for top place has proven to make a lot of users unhappy. Why does IE have to be bundled with windows? Why do they have a stranglehold on directX? you can ask yourself a lot of these questions and then it finally just clicks and "makes sense".
