No confirmation on "modding" or what modding entails other than it might be in the game based on an article from March.
There is no terraforming.
Buildings zoning density is determined by the size of the road the zone is placed adjacent to. There are no more "low", "medium," and "high" zoning types.
Regions feature lots of "empty" space between cities, which at this time are big grassy plains. There are auto-generated highways that run between the cities that you cannot control.
You have to work with other players to build "wonders" in the empty spaces between cities, such as international airports.
Tilt-shift mode. (I kind of like it.)
Buildings situated along curved roads are not "wall-to-wall". Buildings are not dynamically shaped, leaving some dead-space between buildings. Right now that dead-space is all patchy grass, but fans are hoping there is a Cities XL-style system to plop in plazas, parking lots, etc. Maxis has said they are working on this concern."
With all the small annoying things its kinda like two steps forward and a leap back for me, it really annoys me as I actually like the idea of using the cloud system as a base for MP...Like, have a region SC4 style but have it so you can let Origin friends join your game and pick plots, so I could (for example) play with two friends, I do a clean industrial city, one does a dirty industrial city and the other focuses on having a city that gets lots of resources for the other two.

Yeah but.... curved roads!

Well I suppose I can go through each of those standpoints individually with my opinions.

-Sad that it is limited to "medium" but I barely played SC4 so I'm not even sure how big that is.
-Modding would be nice but the lack of it doesn't bother me. The game itself should have enough variety.
-Don't know what terraforming is.
-Makes at least a little sense that the zoning density is based on the size of the road. Larger roads accommodate denser zones.
-Sad about the empty space and highways you cannot control.
-Hope there are ways to build "wonders" without the aid of other players, is there true single player which allows this?
-Don't know what tilt-shift mode is.
-Maxis is working on this concern.

Wonder if they are leaving some things out on purpose to make room for an expansion.

Yeah, I'm aware there's a lot of changed things from that post and it's not 100% correct but I can't really be bothered listing all the stuff I dislike, I will compare it to Cities XL 2012 though.

Even then it wouldn't be worth the $60 that many people pre-ordered for.
I played for 1 hour and I couldn't just play anymore, it was overhyped. Tried to get refund but couldn't, as with many other people.
BRINK is dead now I think, and I've seen so many attempts to milk some more money off of the game by having Free Weekends and sales for $5, which makes me feel really ripped off.
After the first week or two, the game just became dead. Development team just trashed the game after release and stopped working on it.

This is the one game that makes me not want to pre-order anything ever, unless it is a game that is 100% positive to be successful.

Gotta agree. I'm fine paying $40-50 on a new game, $30 after maybe 6-8 months of release... and I would buy several new titles a year. With it being $60 for everything new now, I buy maybe 1-3 new titles a YEAR, Steam sales aside biggrin.gif, because that extra $10 adds up and many just can't make the extra dive. $50 sounds easier to swallow than $60 as well. You'd think marketing would be aware of that. It's not a BIG change in price, but it certainly feels big to a lot of people who've been buying games for 10-20 years.

Like we've mentioned... thanks to the Steam Summer Sale at least, I've got a few new games I haven't even touched yet to hold me over until this comes out. After this is on the market 2-3 months and is refined a little, I'll take the dive after seeing how it really performs. If all else, I've got all my classic Sim City games to fall back on. You don't play these games for the graphics, you play for the game. That's why I can still enjoy Master of Orion 2 biggrin.gif ... MOO3 is a different story... imagine Civ5 on a galactic scale with fear monger AI that goes to war, levies embargos and blockades for no reason, but doesn't actually take military action. I hate politics frown.gif lol

The pre-order is coming onto my x-mas wish list. Does anybody know if there's going to be directx11 support?

I hope someone releases a way to run SC5 w/o Origin... ya know? thumb.gif

No, sir, not at all. The last SimCity was SC4... the last piece of crap to bear it's name was probably societies or some portable version not part of the real SC line (orig, 2k, 3k, 4, and 5).

I have sworn off pre-ordering EA games as well, and usually only buy them after a healthy price reduction. However THIS is sim city! EA has done a great job of running the franchise into the ground and now they have a chance to redeem themselves. They've had YEARS to do this. I'll give them one last chance.

Yeah, this is my last chance for it as well; although it looks more like they're trying to invent a second Sims cash cow sadly.
