Is there a way to get a Gigabyte 7950 past 1100Mhz Core in AB?

Thread Starter
Title says it all. I just got a Gigabyte 7950 and OC'd it almost immediately to 1100/1450 with a small voltage increase to 1.13V and Im not even hitting 50C in Heaven Benchmark or an hour of BF3. I could OC it more but it would seem max allowed is 1100Mhz Core. Anyone know a work around or a how to?

Have you unlocked unofficial Overclocking in MSI Afterburner?
Quote:
We're receiving emails on how to enable additional overclockability for AMD cards (if supported) in MSI afterBurner.

To enable the unofficial overclocking in this version it is necessary to edit the MSIAfterburner.cfg file located in the installation directory of AfterBurner (typically Program Files (x86) MSI Afterburner):

You need to alter the following:

Seek UnofficialOverclockingEULA field and add following text:
I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
Set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 1 to keep PowerPlay active (may not work on old ASICs), 2 to traditionally disable PowerPlay or to 0 to temporary disable unofficial overclocking path

Using the unofficial overclock method opens up more freedom in terms of voltages and clock ranges, it however also can open a can of worms in terms of stability or weird issues.

Hey! Yesterday I stumbled upon the problem of not being able to enable unofficial OC in MSI Afterburner. This happened after reinstalling Windows.

Thanks to Unwinder for giving us an explanation for the problem!

AMD has removed two dll files in Catalyst 12.2 that still existed in version 12.1. Therefore if 12.2 happens to be the first driver you install on your new system you won't have those two dll files on your computer. This causes MSI Afterburner to fail to set the unofficial overclocking values.

To fix the problem you need to download the two dll files and place them in your MSI afterburner folder. You may need to REBOOT afterwards.

The files can be downloaded here:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/un5iyx

Do this at your own risk. This solution might or might not work with future Catalyst releases.

Confirmed working on Catalyst 12.2.
Confirmed working on Catalyst 12.3.
Confirmed working on Catalyst 12.4.
Confirmed working on Catalyst 12.8.

This method still works with Afterburner 2.2.2. I cannot confirm if recent versions still support this method. Make sure that both of your config files have these lines at the bottom.

[ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingMode=1
UnofficialOverclockingEULA=I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

The cfg files are located at:
/MSI Afterburner/Profiles/MSIAfterburner.cfg
/MSI Afterburner/MSIAfterburner.cfg

If you are having problems try to disable third party themes, that worked for me.

HOW TO: Enable UNOFFICIAL overclocking mode in MSI AfterBurner
GUIDE: Enable unofficial overclocking after Catalyst 12.2

Yea, just use TriXX. If I remember well you have to download some patch for your drivers to go past 1.1ghz on AB.

I get a score of 1238 in Heaven Benchmark with extreme tess and everything maxed out on 1920x1080p

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/w3p2a/

I got an OC of 1150/1500 on 1.17V

I get no more than 50C in Battlefield 3 and dont go over 52C in Heaven Benchmark. Ive got excellent case airflow so it doesnt get to hot. Id love to go more but Im kinda scared to ruin my obviously fantastic card ^^.

you don't have to worry about going higher clocks. your temps are very good. I would say 1.2 Ghz would be worth the try. Anyway for a 1080p monitor you will be maxing every game at 60 fps. so actually it makes sense to just stick to 1.15 Ghz. Can you tell what fps you get in BF3 with Ultra 4x MSAA at 1080p . also do you play bf3 multiplayer and can you tell fps at the same settings.
