My 1st Build

Thread Starter
Hello all.
I`m looking to build my 1st pc and have come here for help and some guidance...(also to put the girlfriend at ease)
I`ve been lurking round reading up on everything for a while now to get some idea and work out what works with what.
Until now most of my computers have been 2 or 3 generations behind, and ive long dreamed of the day i could buy a game
without having to look at system requirments...

Want to make a bit of `alrounder` type pc-facebook and netsurfing for kids/gf and gaming for me.
I play mw3 and battlefield3 on xbox currently, and am really looking forward to seeing what a decent pc can do...(especially after
reading on here how pc blows xbox away with graphics etc....also the 64 player servers on bf3...)
Budget-i`ve got about 12-1400...a bit less is always better tho...thats for box and os-im going use my current monitor
until i can get hopefully a 120hz monitor (hopefully early new year) same for keyboard and mouse.

The planned parts list:

(all prices thru pccasegear)
mobo - AsRock Fatal1ty Professional $229
cpu - intel i5 3570k $233
graphics - Asus DC11 HD7950 3gb $335
ram -Patriot Viber 2x4gb ddr3 1600 $48
case -Corsair C70 Vengeance black $162
HDD - 1. Samsung 830 128gb ssd $99
2. Western Digital WD black 1tb $105
power - Corsair TX650 V2 80 plus gold $112
cooler - Coolmaster hyper 212 evo $35
SAmsung 22x DVD RW $19

total=$1388+os

Is there anything ive forgotten?
Will it all work together?
Is there anything ive over or under speced?
Anywhere i could get better `bang for my buck`

P.s. Thank you all very much in advance. it must get fustrating answering the same newbie question all the time. Please be paitent with me and ill learn...lol...Ive looked at many sites an reviews etc but keep coming back to this one-i love it-some of the stuff on here is awesome...

Thanks

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096 for ram

Do you need a full case? The NZXT 410 is a bit cheaper and can handle most things as well as the full version

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=nzxt+410&x=0&y=0

Do you have to have a modular psu? If so that's a great choice if you don't need it you can get some nice 750w-900w PSUs for the same price as that HX650.

Otherwise it looks like a solid build. thumb.gif

Oops forgot about sound card, I don't use one. I find the hdmi to my HT and floor standing speakers with uncompressed PCM or the HD audio codecs when gaming/ watching a Bluray on my PC sound leagues better than the sound cards I've used.

If you're using regular PC speakers the DG is s very nice budget card, it doesn't have the nice headphone amp that the higher-end ones do but otherwise a good card.

Are you sure you want to spend so much on the case. Is it for bragging rights or is it to be functional . the ANTEC 302 is a decent case. very spacious. good cooling. tool-less 5.25 inch bays. here is a review

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_733&products_id=19733

Also for a single GPU PC a high quality 520w modular PSU like the ANTEC HCG 520M is sufficient. AQ5 - 5 year warranty. 40A (480w) on +12v rail. thats very good. The money which you save can be invested in larger SSD like the Samsung 830 256 GB SSD.

Installing the games on your SSD would take a lot of space. Max Payne 3 took 27 GB on my HDD . The main purpose of SSD is blazing fast performance with the OS and super fast load times with games. If you want the OS and game installations on your SSD , a 256 GB SSD is necessity.

With a 128 GB SSD you can put on 3-4 massive games or 6-7 or so large games, the games that actually benefit the most from SSD are still MMOs because of their constant asset loading. Most games don't really need or make use of the SSD speed and it's pretty much a waste to have your entire steam library on an SSD. Most people have 3-4 games they actually main and a 128GB SSD is more than fine with that.

I would normally advise against a 256GB SSD for most people but with the prices of them hitting like $160 and stuff it's hard to argue against..........

But definitely 256 are not a necessity and it's not really useful to load most multilayer games fast since you still have to wait for the CD on the match and can't even move.

Welcome!

I like the look of all of it, but I would get the Samsung 2x4GB 30nm "Magic" Ram, and I would get a 256GB Samsung 830 if your budget is that big.

I would suggest a water cooler (I always do!)... or an all in one like a Corsair H100, seeing as this is your first build!

We can all help with overclocking your 3570K and your 7950.

Don't forget this stuff

Have fun building!

Cheers,

DB

I would hold off building the computer until after Black Friday.

You should search slickdeals.net for individual sales leading up to black friday, and try to buy the rest of the computer a couple days after if a couple things you wanted didn't go on sale.

You can easily save $300 on a $1500 computer by finding the parts one sale.

example: newegg recently had http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087 750 watt Tier 1 PSU for $100 + tax. This PSU is one teir above the HX (higher quality parts), and has 750 watts which would be ideal for a 7970 xfire setup.

I would have an idea of mobo features you want, and look for a decent sale (sometimes have a combo deal with ram or a CPU).

Again, if you can spread out the purchasing of the computer over the next month, and plan to completely finish after thanksgiving, you could save a decent amount.

The build is actually good, IMO, if your buying in the US like newegg, you can save the $49 for the ram, its free already with the motherboard, & with the psu, you can get this 750W semi-modular CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750M , larger wattage less cost.. For the soundcard, the onboard is sufficient unless your an audiophile or something, drop it.
