Not going to bother out of laziness and because I'm content with Win7.

I 'switched' as soon as it was available in Dreamspark.
Am interested to see any potential performance differences with the 8350.

I just tried it for a week. I think there are significant improvements under the hood that once you are in a game you will appreciate, response times seem overall better and it does seem to handle high end systems a little easier.

However, the OS has its faults:
The operating system UI, not just Metro & Tiles, can be a particular pain in the corn hole for File Sharing, getting correct permissions (you are never a true admin), there are some privacy issues I was very concerned about, and something new where the OS has the ability to "lose" drivers it has issues with. For example, I seemed to reproduce an issue while benchmarking on my AMD cards, that given two new UNHAPPY BSODs, I am not sure what to call them, I lost both my audio and video card driver. It was technically installed but the driver was completely missing requiring a reinstall. While, I have heard only rumors that the system has this a feature, it could very well be a bug in the RTM.

That being said, I am back on Windows 7, there was no performance gain for me over Windows 7 with the exception of a few games. Win 7's boot up time and shut down time is faster for me, but I have a nice SSD to begin with. A lot of mechanical drive users say Win8 boot time has been greatly improved for them. Win 7 is much easier to administer and manage, as well as configure.

Given the choice of the two, I would pick Windows 7. Windows 7 has proven reliability while Windows 8 may or may not have fixes for problems it currently has, UAC is extremely obtrusive, and privacy seems to be an after thought. Some of my User information was pulled from Windows Live and put on my computer. Normally no problem, but I never asked it to do so. I simply creating an online profile account first to test it out. I then converted it to a local account, but it never stopped pulling the internet for my personal information already stored in Live. There might be ways to turn this off, but suffice to say I wasn't too happy this was defaulted to on.

Yea, I wouldn't mind it at all. I've heard the interface is quite cool. However, I'd love to have some gaming performance increase. I know boot times are faster and I'd like to see some more comparisons once drivers for windows 8 are a little bit more friendly. I would expect there to be some type of performance increase hopefully. Whether that actually be in the form of more FPS for games or faster map loading times, It'll be interesting to see the comparisons.

Probably not.

Yes and no. New build has a copy coming preordered (been using CP on that build for a few months). Older Vista machine getting the $40 upgrade direct from MS. The two Win7 machines are not getting upgraded because there really is no reason to do so. Please don't tell me to downgrade the two machines to 7 like you think that's a super good idea. I actually like Win8. My opinion. Just no point for ME in upgrading the Win7 machines.

Of course! I have Win 8, with Start8, and I am loving it. I am starting to like Start; I prefer the traditional UI but start is nice once you know how it works. I switch to it for Apps such as Weather, News, Mail, Skydrive. It's great! Although, if the traditional UI was cut and all the options were implemented into the new UI, I would have loved it even more.

Also, I had no problems running any of my games.

well looks like the win 8 RC doesn't expire until jan 2013 and you can still download it...so I'm dling the RC....wonder if any significant changes between RC and retail that maybe the RC doesn't have/won't have

no way, it makes my head hurt !! theyve actually taken things that were simple, and made them harder! for wat, to be a little wanky? unless you have a touchscreen its a nightmare. i find it rude as, dont understand how they would spit in the face of their bread n butter like that? fair enough they want to capitalize on an expanding market, but wat theyre saying is a multi billion dollar company cant make Two versions of software, like it or lump it??! i assume curiosity will in fact kill the cat, so watch n memorise these they will help wink.gifhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KelO-2PAWw&list=FLlqsfqcFAnyA_hdzgra7-Qg&feature=mh_lolz
