Ive been running it for a week or so now and it's fine. I boot quickly and the compatability feature makes it so I can run any game I want. I've been playing some EQ2, Neverwinter Nights 2, and various other games through origin and steam. I've seen no issues. But Ive gone from vista to windows 8 (i know...vista?). So I dont have a comparison to 7.

I haven't noticed any difference between games with win 8 on my laptop and win 7 on my ITX desktop.... Seriously no difference...

Only real difference is the bootup and shutdown times... NVCP is a little slower too...

Windows RT is closed yes, but the x86 version of Windows 8 is just as open or closed as Windows 7 is/was.

It is closed because you cannot access the source code. That puts everyone at the mercy of Microsoft's whims. I think people are beginning to understand with indies supporting linux/mac and Steam coming to linux.

amazing , smooth , cool and feels lighter than win7

I tried it out at bestbuy (probably a bad place to get a first look) and I couldn't operate the metro UI worth a damn.

As long as I can restore the start menu in desktop mode I'd be happy with it if I upgraded.

Nah, not really worth the money and the trouble to getting used to it. Although if it has some performance advantage versus 7 I would consider it.

So you pay them money and get something you already have?!?

Win8 is a joke(for PC's). M$ needed to keep that one for phones and tablets. It simply dose not belong on a keyboard mouse/non touch screen interface. There are some performance gain's from win8. Not enough to justify the crap layout though.

As technology changes so do the people that run the devices. The non-touch items are going the way of the VCR guys, kids don't even know how to read a newspaper these days without being able to pinch-zoom! I've used a touchpad for the iMac and loved it so having a secondary touchpad to control on screen navigation is great outside of gaming, time to change my friend.
