For me personally all I want is an FT03 with improved cooling, thicker aluminum panels for the left and right side that matches the thickness of the front and rear, and better cable management with larger grommeted holes to route the cables through.

What?!?!? Seriously, what?!?! Have you ever tried the FT03? It looks good, I'll give you that... but its a REAL turd. Its THE most painful case to work with, and there is nothing inside that has been done with any thought... if at all.

a) The holes for the SATA cables are useless. Whoever designed them never bothered to install a case inside the case.

b) The temperatures for the HDD's are non-acceptable. They fry inside if you have a decent computer.

c) Cable management has no thought at all.

d) The panels have a crappy mounting mechanism... whereas there is no thing screwless on the hole case.

etc

On the other hand, the SG09 is a very good case... that looks bad. I hope they change that front panel because its a very good case, other than that.

Yes, my current build now is in an FT03 and I personally love the design and think it is the best looking mATX case available with more than acceptable CPU and GPU cooling options for a case of its size. I'm someone that really appreciates the design and build quality of Apple's aluminum products and the Silverstone FT03 is one of the extremely few PC cases I'd choose for someone that goes for that type of design and look.

That said it has areas needing improvement which you stated and they're pretty much the same areas that I was bringing up myself. The biggest being the poorly thought out cable management as well as the left and right side panels need to be thicker aluminum with a better mounting mechanism. I can't speak for the hard drive cooling since I'm only using SSD's at the moment but no doubt a mechanical hard drive needs better cooling added as well.

Even with those faults though I'd still choose it over any of the rest of the currently available mATX cases to choose from just the same as I would choose the FT02 or the upcoming FT04 if I wanted to go back to a larger ATX case.

I had to sell my FT03 because it was a no-no with a GTX480 SOC... all the case would get really warm and thus the drives would cook themselves into the case. Right now I'm looking forward for the FT04 because it looks to be VERY nice, like a TJ08 (talking about the layout) but being full ATX and with (fingers crossed) a unibody frame.

To-Do list:
  • Add mounts along the side for second 120mm filtered fan. Possibly double up above existing row. Dual SR1 240s side-by-side would be pretty boss.
  • Add mounts along top for offset 2x 120 / 2x 140mm filtered fans. Clearance should be fine for most 240 and 140 radiators when the optical drive is removed. Fractal ModuVent-like hatch to cover unused space when the drive is installed.
  • Add bottom fan slots for 2x 120mm / 1x 140mm filtered fan(s). Air cooled GPUs need air.
  • Smack the designer upside the head for not doing these things in the first place.

This case was almost awesome. It's like Silverstone had a great idea, but forgot to finish the whole thought process. Especially since this is NOT an OEM case, but an enthusiast's case. Would've loved them to do a Fractal-style Steel w/ Brushed Alu facade.

The case is so well designed inside, it's a shame the front panel looks so ugly and cheap. Being able to fit a huge amount of components inside such a tiny box and still have great cooling potential requires clever design, and in that area I think Silverstone succeeded. On aesthetics, though, they failed miserably. I would have purchased one for sure had they not made it look so ugly.

Awsome layout but extremely fugly to look at.

Its a case that is so fugly that only its creator would love.

Will wait for the SG10 (SG09 with facelift)
Someone needs to do some SERIOUS modding to make that case look nice - but at $99 it would cost much more to mod it lol.
