I think what we are seeing is the erosion of law enforcement rules as a result of the "Patriot Act". The FBI and other govt. agencies were given broad sweeping powers in the name of fighting terrorism and are applying them to other areas. I saw this coming, as the "Patriot Act" is incredibly Unconstitutional, but others just insisted that it was a good idea. I think the US Federal Govt has adopted an official policy of "it's better to apologize later than ask permission" and it is becoming a very slippery slope. Of course, that's just my opinion. Come and arrest me.
