LCD TV VGA vs HDMI Problem.

Thread Starter
I have been having the problem with every HDMI LCD i have had LG, Samsung, Sony.
Today i was playing around with my new Server PC which has a A8-3570K.
I connected the PC via HDMI to the TV (LG 42LG60) set resolution to 1080p 60Hz and all was good but the picture just does not look sharp at all.
I ten tried VGA and set that to 1080p and it looks beautiful like most like my PC monitor.
Why is HDMI not working? I dont want to spend hours changing setting to get to VGA quality. There must be something i am doing wrong.

Yep, I have the same issue on every setup. Using CCC's Scaling options helps but you still dont get the same quality as VGA which is weird because its the inferior connection.

Been trying to figure it out for a long time.

Through the HDMI setting, simply try setting the 'Sharpness' setting ALL THE WAY down... This has fixed several TV issues giving that 'Blocky' text issue...

Here is a link to a good thread on why the text looks like this...

You don't disable it. It's how video is encoded. There is a large failure in the area of PCs, HDMI, and TVs. Sometimes it's the video card that's outputting only 4:2:2, and sometimes it's the TV subsampling the input. Most often it's the TV that does not support 4:4:4. This is fine for video, because 4:2:2 is still better than 4:2:0, which is how ALL video that consumers see is sampled. It simply makes colored text against black backgrounds look like crap, which is why using TVs for monitors is a giant fail.

What is happening is you're basically applying blurring to that chroma channel by turning down the sharpness. There's nothing to do to VGA. It is a pure RGB signal, so there is no chroma channel to subsample. Any imperfections in the picture is because it's an analog signal and there is some bleeding going on. Chroma subsampling mainly looks so bad because everything that renders video uses nearest neighbor for sizing back up the chroma channel. You can use different resizing algorithms to somewhat band-aid the problem.

I am just going to stick to VGA. Its not just text. Colors are so much better via VGA. They are as good as my U2711.

That's what I do also to my 42" LCD...
Also through HDMI I had issues specifically on the Cryengine where it defaults to 24HZ... that was also annoying and fixed by going through VGA...

use moninfo.exe!when you get the info, check if it say non-srgb (almost 100% will)if it does, get adobe rgb (1998)ms has been trying for decade to convince their solution is better!i just tried adobe rgb 1998 for the first time right now,and dam i was stupid.i should have know my issue was with ms not the screen maker!lol they make the darn thing ,if srgb or scrgb was good why would they use adobe rgb!now?i got high definition, set wcs to what it default at the top set that to adobe 1998 (you should have it avaqil now that you downloaded the profil and installed it.they sound the same but trust the hdtv maker ,when they say non-srggb (listen to it!NOW I GOT HD) cheer .finally one issue out of the way.might need to enable itc in gpu if you had disabled it!
