Is the Corsair Hydro H100 any good?

Thread Starter
Hello,

Well; I'm building a new system. If you would like to see as of yet what I am planning on buying you can divert your eyes to my Proposed Rig.

Now, as you can see; I am going to hopefully be using the Gigabyte "GA 990FXA UD7" motherboard, including the AMD "FX-8350 Vishera" (4.0Ghz) CPU, with this I am going to (if recommended) be using the Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme cooler.

As for RAM, I'm hoping on the Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866MHz 4x4GB total.

----

Are there any objections thus far, and if so, what do you recommend, and if any recommendations are in order; then I shall have a think about what you're recommending.

I'd definitely go with an Intel i5 3570K or 2500K over the FX-8350 and then go with a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H or something similar. The H100 is great, I have one myself however I got one of the bad batch with a noise issue but if you buy one now I think it should be okay smile.gif

The H100 isn't bad, but it's overpriced. If you want a closed loop, the Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme outperforms it and has been on sale for $100 several times already. It's the only closed loop that's readily available that routinely beats air cooling. I'd recommend sticking with air cooling or a custom loop instead though,

The build looks good, though I'm not a fan of the Vengeance RAM. The source their ICs from Nanya and Hynix. You can find much better RAM for the money like the low voltage Samsung RAM or some of the PowerChip based G.Skill HyperX kits. If you're going for the black heatspreaders, look at G.Skill Sniper or Mushkin Blackline and Ridgeback Blackline instead.

The H100 is not all that good. A top of the line Air cooler will out preform it and cost less. My recommendation is that you get an Thermaltake silver arrow sb-e or its extreme version if you don't mind some noise. Just keep in mind that you might have to do Pull/Pull so that the front fan clears your hig profile Vengeance ram. Other great air coolers worth considering are the noctua nh-d14, Phanteks ph-tc14pe.
